Does anyone else remember all the folks that said, when Coach Saban put him on the field as a true freshman, that Dee Milliner couldn't play corner? 8)

I had a feeling they were looking to get DEE. When Revis left they needed a good shut down corner. RTR!

Geno Smith said upon arrival at Radio City Music Hall that he would enjoy the positives and ignore the negatives. That he was just going to enjoy being there. Now he is returning home pouting, and will not be returning to enjoy the 2nd day of the picks. LOL

It's hard for those guys to be invited, have the press fill their heads, and then wait with their name not being called.  I kinda felt bad when they announced Eddie Lacy had been invited to NY, because I figured he would be left waiting.  But he seems an easy-going guy, and had teammates and Saban there with him.

I think that's why Saban goes to the draft. To provide some support to his guys whether they are drafted or not in the first round. I'm not sure if he stays for the entire draft.

Eddie and Jesse Williams should be gone by midway through the 2nd round.  Barrett I see as a 3rd round guy.  Maybe we can sneak one more into the 3rd round (Square or M Williams most likely).

The Cowboys took a center in the first round, and it wasn't BJ.   :o

Yeah, Eddie and Jessie should go today.  I think BJ is being undervalued, but we'll see.

Can someone give me some insight on how a kid from central mich is drafted ahead of the kid from A&M?  I think looking at the competion in conference alone would switch that thinking around.

All the on air guys have been just slamming the Cowboys for that one all day. I think someone said he wasn't even the best center available in the draft (which I think is Barrett, of course, looking through my crimson colored glasses). I was a little unsure at first with the Ravens pick of Matt Elam, but the more I heard about him and saw some of his skills, and the way Ozzie has just gushed over him, the more I think that this was a good pickup. Losing Ed Reed, we needed a safety who could hit and cover (something Ed never could do).

This draft has been bizarre!  I thought I saw an opening for Eddie Lacy at Dallas. Do they not have a 'not everydown" type guy with injury (dinged up) problems. He and EL would have paired up well.

That would require Jerrah to do something brilliant in the football world. When have you ever known him to do something like that?

I'm just shocked that Eddie Lacy hasn't been drafted yet. We went out to dinner and I just KNEW when I got home and checked, that he and BJ would've been drafted :(

Le'Ron McClain seems happy--twittering away--on the Manti Tao pick by San Diego.

Monte Ball picked ahead of EL.  If "injury prone" is showing up as a negative on him it is an injustice, since he has really only had a couple of minor injuries. They just happened to be (high ankle, turf toe) of the slow healing nature.

EL to "Titletown"

61st (Rd. 2) -- Green Bay Packers.  I cannot believe fumble-itus is even being mentioned. That problem wasn't even really a problem in his freshman season.

Philly would be a bad team to be selected by--JMHO--since Chip Kelly will not last long there.

I'd have to look back, but I think Preacher hit the EL to Green Bay call last night.

He just might have, but I doubt Preacher thought Green Bay would be able to trade down with SF and get more value for EL with a later pick, near the end of the second round.

As I've been saying, EL has had some injury issues, some very early career fumble issues (which he long ago resolved), and perhaps the greatest group of offensive linemen to ever play together in college football blocking for him.  So he is being undervalued.  But Green Bay got a steal.

Honey Badger went in the third round, to the Cardinals.  They're willing to take the risk; despite his off-field issues TM is a great return guy, and an adequate backup CB.

I had that feeling in my gut. I actually thought Green Bay would have gotten him earlier but the 49ers have to play the Packers so they wasn't doing anything to help them. RTR!

Wow, three rounds in and Matt Barkley is still on the board. I rarely am in favor of a player leaving school early, but in this case I think Barkley would have gone higher had he jumped to the League last year.

Yep, good team.

Picked second in the 4th, right behind Matt Barkley (the Eagles traded up to get him).

Barkley was probably a good deal in the 4th round, he was missing some components, and coaching, at USC last year, and definitely dropped down.

157. San Francisco picks DL Quinton Dial (Alabama)

I'm not sure what this is.  Sour grapes, maybe?  So BOTH of Notre Dame's safeties that got eaten up in the NC game by BAMA's offense get drafted and Robert Lester DOESN'T?  I mean, they couldn't defend the pass OR the run!

Lester was an unknown in HS. People started to notice him while they recruited Julio. Bama was lucky to sign him. After he sat out a redshirt year all he did was play special teams as a freshman and start at free safety for the best defensive coach and team in the NCAA for three years.

He did not impress anyone at the combine or in his workouts. He was slow by NFL standards. As a free agent the NFL will soon find out what we have known for awhile. Lester has a nose for the football and he is a sure tackler. He is always in position. I think he will make a team roster and be in the league for many years. Simply put he is a player.

Yeah, he may not have flatout speed, but he makes up for it by football smarts, being in the right place.  Some people have suggested that you may be better off being a free agent than getting drafted in the late rounds.  You have more versatility to choose a team.

I was very surprised to see EJ Manuel go so high in the draft.  Is that talent undeveloped, or an NFL overreach?

Saban does better talent scouting than the services, and then does a phenomenal job developing that talent.  Take Chance Warmack, a three star recruit out of HS, becomes a first round draft pick, or Kareem Jackson, who committed to Vandy without high level program offers, until Saban took over the Tide and picked him up.  So yeah, Saban gets athletes other scouts notice, but also gets the less hyped athletes that might need a bit of work on fundamentals and then turns them into top picks.

There is an article down in WALL-E World that quotes CNS talking about the fact that all 12 guys who left the program this year where either drafted or signed as free agents.  There were 9 seniors and 3 guys who left early.  100% of them have an opportunity to play in the NFL.  Has that ever happened before?  You can't do better than 100%.  That should get some attention on the recruiting trail.
