Post by: Jamos on February 09, 2013, 05:56:46 AM
The top-ranked Alabama softball team earned two wins on opening day, downing Illinois, 7-2 in the opener and then sinking host Northern Iowa, 8-1, Friday at the UNI-Dome Classic.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lauren Sewell get the nod to pitch in one of the games today. It will be a big plus for the team if she can become part of the pitching rotation.

Haylie McCleney really showed her offensive talents in yesterday's double header and she is very good defensively as well. She is just a freshman but she may be the best player that Murph has recruited.

I was thinking Sewell might start one of the games today as well. Jury is good but a bit inconsistant. Competition for the # 2 spot will make them both better and build depth. We need one of them to step up so Traina does not have to pitch both ends of double headers.
