Title: Can Texas A&M Revive Themselves against Alabama?
Post by: Chechem on October 05, 2022, 06:16:14 AM
Back when Jimbo was coaching Florida State, we watched Alabama's opening game as Ronnie Harrison sacked FSU quarterback Deondre Francois.  Francois' knee injury meant he was lost for the season.  The FSU team that year fell apart.  I heard an analyst explain why that one injury ruined the season:  "JIMBO PUTS A VERY COMPLEX OFFENSE ON HIS QB; TOO COMPLICATED TO EXPECT A BACKUP TO COME IN AND BE IMMEDIATELY SUCCESSFUL."
_____
Today I saw this article explain the A&M 2022 problems:  https://theathletic.com/3655982/2022/10/04/jimbo-fisher-texas-am/

Texas A&M, meanwhile, keeps running a complicated system that players have yet to prove they can master. The coaching staff hasn’t developed many receivers, so when Ainias Smith went out for the season with an injury, it forced true freshman Evan Stewart into a WR1 role that he might not be ready to assume. Stewart has dropped a few passes he should have caught. The quarterbacks have thrown more than a few passes behind Stewart or in the dirt, and even when everything else goes to plan it feels as if one mental mistake can turn a touchdown into no gain.

As he did Monday, Fisher will point out that if all 11 players executed, the play would work.

And that’s the fundamental difference between Fisher and Saban. Fisher believes that if his offense executes what he calls, success will come.

Saban believes that if the offense struggles to execute the plays called, then the offensive coordinator needs to choose different plays that the players can execute successfully.

_____
So it's possible that A&M will put it all together against Alabama, but it's a steep learning curve, and they're on QB #2 for the season already.

I think this game is gonna be important to both teams. The fact being how they beat us last year, and Fisher needs this to keep his job alive. RTR!

I think a&m will play Bama tough. Jimbo has taken the auburn mentality, like last year, that the whole season centers on beating Alabama. They practice off season to play Alabama. Why practice for App State and Miss State when Alabama is the Big Game trophy.
I hope Bama takes care of business but just beware.

Welcome back TD. I agree we have to be on our toes for this game. RTR!

If they beat us that is all you will hear the rest of the year. Like last year. RTR!
