Title: "Top-ranked kicker, Tide commit performs in the clutch"
Post by: Chechem on January 27, 2012, 05:21:18 AM
Quote
In a recruiting class packed with 5-star names like T.J. Yeldon and Landon Collins, a 3-star guy named Adam Griffith is easily missed.  But the Calhoun (Ga.) High School senior is the top-ranked kicker in the country. He’s got a big leg and proved himself in the clutch.

Griffith kicked four field goals in the Class AA state title game win...........

This might just be the most valuable recruit  in the class.

I watched Griffith in that game on a link that one of you guys posted about. He is exactly what Bama needs, an accurate FG kicker even from long range, and someone who can kick it through the end zone.

Andrew Bone said last night that he had personally watched him kick and he was very consistant kicking the ball through the end zone. He also said he had also talked with one of the top kicking coaches in the country and this guy said that he is the best kicker he has seen in 15 years.

Cade Foster was a very highly ranked kicker. Cade could kick in through the end zone in HS. I don't know what happened. As hscoach has pointed out several times kicking FG in college is much different when you can not use a block.

I hope this guy solves our kicking problems for the next 4 years. How big is he? He looks like a 9th grader.

He is 5' 9" weighs 165

I'm not sure what happens with the kickers once they get on campus as far as any coaching goes but Foster definitly went backwards with his progress.

Cade Foster has an unusual kickoff style.  As a casual observer (well, interested observer), it seems to me that (1) "punching" at the ball as he does could easily injure the kicker, and (2) CF is limited in terms of potential improvement using that technique (i.e., he's maxed out for distance).

You can go to you tube and watch CF's high school highlights and see the difference in kicking styles.

Does CF place the ball on the tee leaning away from not towards him?

That is what it appears to me.

Griffith does not use a block - there is some video on Youtube to show it.

It didn't look like he used a block when he kicked.  If this is true he is ahead of the game.  Many kicker have to adapt to going from a 3 inch block to kicking off the ground.  This is what helped Colt David who went to LSU.  Colt was a ready kicking off the ground his Sr year in high school.

All of you golfers should realize what Cade's problem is.

 I think he meant that it's the 6 inches between the ears, but I like your answer better.
