I apologize if I'm reading this wrong... But is Deadspin at the end saying that Manti might possibly be a homosexual and that he was trying to cover it up with this story.
Imagine this being your last ditch option for explaining away why your hero is a pathological liar and opportunist.
The more I think about it, the more this actually makes sense. Maybe he and his buddy create this imaginary girlfriend so he doesn't have to explain to his ND teammates his lack of interest in women, and then the press gets a hold of it (or maybe the ND Heisman marketing campaign arm). Still, he lied, and he continues to lie in damage control mode (the press is reporting his garbage as if it is true?). And he was trying to use the story to promote his image in the press. If I were in charge of a team's NFL draft picks, I wouldn't touch him until the 7th round.
We are closer to the truth than the "Manti is a victim" crowd.
Did you catch what I posted earlier about BK giving him a game ball to give to his dying GF? Where is that? LOL
