Title: Couple of Concerns About Depth Chart
Post by: Marshal Dillon on August 30, 2016, 11:40:03 AM
After reviewing the depth chart, I am somewhat concerned to see our best receiver & one of the best in the country returning punts. He is so vital to the team and the offense as a whole. Would rather see Jamos return punts than risk Ridley. Plus, AeDarius Stewart, our second-best WR, is returning kick-offs. Man, this makes me sweat.

So Saban can now predict injuries, right? If it happens, be sure to say what a great idea it was. Nothing chicken little about injuries in football. I read somewhere that more injuries occur on special teams that in other areas of the game. I just hope nothing happens to either of these good to great players.

with all the adjustments to kicks/kickoffs in the recent past it will not surprise me if in the near future
they'll just place the ball on the 25 and say "play ball" ...  :lol2:

That's where it's heading.

I saw one site that had us listed three times in the top 10

something like ....

Alabama # 1

Alabama's 2nd string #3

Alabama's 3rd string #6

they have the utmost confidence in our back ups it seems  :lol2:  :stars:

Saban has had key players on special teams throughout his time at Bama. Drake broke his arm defending a kickoff last year and Marquis Maze pulled a hammy returning a punt in the 2011-12 BCSCG. Other than those two, I don't remember any starters being injured on special teams.

Until you, no one has said anything about Coach Saban being able to predict injuries so I'm not sure where that comment came from.  He, Coach Saban, gets paid a lot of money to do what he does and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he has been quite successful doing it.  He has shown time and time again that he is able to adapt his team, our team, when adversity strikes.  Fortunately since he has been our coach those incidents have been few... Until he starts to show the world that he can no longer adapt and overcome then I, for one, will continue to put my confidence in him and the decisions he makes...

I see lots of returns for TDs in the future.

Football is a dangerous sport.  Any position.

In my opinion the return man has a greater ability to protect himself than the receiver.

I see lots of returns for TDs in the future.

If J is doing punts, I am moving back immediately and using my children's college money to be a season ticket holder.  :popcorn2:

I'm most concerned and intrigued by the sudden change at center.  Anyone have the inside scoop on what that was all about?  Was Pearsbacher or however you spell it not getting the job done or was Bozeman that much better to warrant a change somewhat late in Fall camp?

I'm hearing that Bozeman is just that much better.

Cole Cubelic (the old Auburn center and current radio host/SECN analyst) seemed to think that the staff planned to start them in the current configuration the entire time.  He thinks it was a smart move by the staff to get Bozeman more work at guard, but probably mostly to get Piersch more work at center so that no matter which of the middle 3 go down, Shank can come in and the transition for the other two will be fluid.

So basically an effort to never have to start anyone outside those 4 this year.

I don't think you can have it both ways.  If you want good special teams, you have to have good players on special teams.

Bama won the Natty last year with special teams.  Great coaching in that game.

I'm not going to second guess our coach on that.   :)
