Florida beats Mizzou, moves from 11th to 8th.

A&M is idle, moves from 1oth to 9th.

We beat Arkansas, drop from 8th to 10th.

I don't mind aTm and UF being put above us right now because those will take care of themselves. Next week when we beat aTm they will drop.  If UF stays undefeated then we will end their run in the SECCG.  We are the highest ranked 1-loss team too so I'm ok with that too...

Applause E-Cred for this one NALT. Well said. I now believe if we do our duty only undefeated team in playoffs will be either TCU/Baylor, Clemson and then probably us with one loss and tosu with one loss. RTR!

I agree.  Where Bama is ranked today is not as important as where Bama might be ranked later in the season.  The key is that Bama is the top ranked team with 1 loss.  These polls are opinions only.  And they aren't opinions that matter all that much.

These polls are based on perception and bias.  Bama struggled for 3/4 of the Arky game which leads to perception that our team is not so strong. Plus the UGA win looks less impressive now after they lost to Tenn.

The bias of the polls is to overweight the value of offense and underweight D.  (1966 is still the shining example of this.)

But you guys are right:  Winning will solve most (all???) of these issues.

I'm not convinced just yet that the pollsters look down on the UGA win after they lost to UT.  Think about it this way...Arkansas took aTm to the end of the game before aTm finally beat them.  Arkansas also beat UT which beat UGA in the late 4th quarter.  Of course, Bama beat UGA handily.  Arkansas' loss to aTm was actually, at least at this point in the season not bad for our strength of schedule though it could become such if other teams continue to beat them and aTm after we have beaten them...I guess I'm just looking through crimson colored glasses right now but I do think that we are in prime position to jump into the playoffs after some of the other teams ahead of us fall by the wayside... Our luck hasn't ran out just yet... Wink

I agree with the others that this will all work out if we just keep winning.

I will also point out that this poll is complete and utter garbage.  After all, these pollsters are nothing more than aspiring basket weavers.  They have Ohio State at #1 for crying out loud.  Ohio State isn't even the best team in the Big 10.

At this point they are still stuck on the "dynasty is dead" talking point.  After we destroy a few more of their darlings they will eventually figure it out.  By January they will all be saying "long live the dynasty."

I'm sure the GA loss to TN didn't help our cause.

I think the real issue is our inconsistency on offense at this point in the season. The pollster are waiting to see the AtM game and how we do through the "gauntlet" we're about to start.

We win, they have no choice but to bump us up.

Here's to beating the Gauntlet.

The pollsters put us behind the Aggies.

Vegas just put us ahead of them.

Who you gonna believe?

FWIW, Bama actually received more points in the AP poll, this week up from last week, but dropped two spots because the Aggies and Florida also received more votes, enough to moved past Bama.

Quote
Alabama picked up six total points from last week's ballots, but was passed by Saturday opponent Texas A&M (No. 9) and Florida (No. Cool.

And Bama moved up one spot in the coaches poll:

The Crimson Tide moved up to No. 9 after entering the week 10th.

I saw that, but it makes no sense to me that aTm passed us when 1) they had a bye and 2) we played a team that they had just played a couple of weeks ago and beat that same team by a larger margin.

Right now these ranking are probably the best thing for Alabama.  Make these kids hungry for respect!  Make them prove themselves every week.

The polls really don't matter anyhow.  The only way we get into playoff this year is by winning the SEC.  After that, we're in.  Without that, we'll be ranked along with the other non-contenders.

I'm just going to try to enjoy the games.  The one this week is a biggie.  We win at A&M, and we've shaken off the 'can't-beat-a-HUNH' moniker.  We need the challenge; should be fun!

Good.  The lack of respect shown to Alabama prior to UGA seemed to light a fire inside our guys.  Let's hope it works again.

It only matters what the committee thinks at the end of the regular season. We win out, we're in, provided Ole Miss loses another game, which is almost a sure thing.
