From a friend.

Quote
John Servati, a student who had been in one of my discipleship groups all year this year and who was going to Lake Tahoe summer project this summer died last night in the storms that passed through Tuscaloosa. We're devastated but trusting the Lord's sovereignty & good plan. He was on the Bama swim team and well known on campus. Although so sad, I'm comforted as I think about how much he had grown in his faith this year and I have no doubt he's with Jesus. Please pray for us as we mourn and seek to minister to many students who are mourning and confused. And of course pray for his family.

Part of an e-mail from the campus ministry coordinator sent to the friend.

Quote
He and his girlfriend went to her basement during the storm. When a rush of water poured into the basement, the walls collapsed on them. He was able to push the wall up so his girlfriend could get out from under the wall, but he was not able to do so. When the responders arrived, they were able to pull his girlfriend out with no injuries; however, John had died.

That is a very sad story but uplifting at the same time. My heart felt prayers go out to John's family and friends. Praise the Lord that John found and was involved with his campus ministry group.

This is incredible footage.  They drive right into the tornado, and you see the immediate damage to houses, trees, and barns.

Saw on the Memphis news yesterday that a house was hit by lightning and caught fire.  The owners didn't know until neighbors called them.

Anybody know what part of Tuscaloosa that tornado touched down in? None of my family members were affected, and since they are spread out all over T-town and Northport, I am quite curious as to its path. It wouldn't surprise me if it was in Taylorville, since that area tends to really attract the storms.

By the way, did someone manage to get 2 breathing again after seeing the golf course?

Man I can't understand guys/gals people hear it round the clock place of safety or safe place. Why don't they listen and give themselves a chance to live through these storms? I hate to see a life taken in a storm but I guess we just pray and hope for peace. RTR!

Turns out, this is the Frank House Municipal Golf Course (and Carver Park) in Bessemer.  It's an old course.  Sad.

Fortunately, few people were injured by the tornado.  Looks like the old course took the bullet for the people of Bessemer.

The storm actually began forming in Fosters and it first touched down close to Shelton State College on Highway 69 South. This is about one mile South from where the deadly tornado started three years ago. It's route from there carried it just South of HillCrest High School then it did some big damage to Taylorwood Estates and houses on Bear Creek Rd , crossed Highway 82 to Hargrove Rd E where it did a lot of damage to the southern part of Woodland Forrest. It actually just missed Woodland Forrest Elementary, Eastwood Mid School, and Bryant High School. From there it crossed/followed I20/59 to Brookwood and on to the B'ham area.

Wow! So glad there were no fatalities associated with it. It is so remarkable how tornado tracks seem to repeat themselves. Pretty scary. T-town is for sure a true tornado alley.

Getting hammered here by the weather. Extreme lightning, very heavy, extensive rain and just came out of a tornado warning. We had very heavy winds a few minutes ago. DirecTV is out because of the weather and the power going off & on. I think I'll go back to the Keys.

The rain is relentless. I've never had my pool flood into the yard before, but it is now. It's a salt water pool, so my back yard is in trouble. It's still raining with more to come.

I think it's the same tornado twice.  To photograph lightning, a camera shutter is left opened.  The lightning strike exposes the film.  Leave the shutter open for a few seconds and get 2 or more strikes.  It appears that those 2 strikes exposed the tornado twice.

I used to take photos of lightning behind bridges and other scenes.

Still, that's a great photo.   :worship:

I live here in Kimberly and this is my church. The tornado came within 100 feet of my house and didn't raise a shingle. Praise God.
We open our church to the community for a storm shelter and 25 people were in the church when it hit. A few bumps and cuts was the worst that happened.
Lot of destruction here but no lives lost.

My wife, sister, BinL were visiting my mom back on 2011 when we had that epic tornado breakout. My wife and I were visiting my mom this year a week before this breakout. Maybe we need to change months for visiting? :tinfoil:

I think from now on on April 26 I'm going in a hole and not come out 'til the 28th.

hope those affected can be back to normal soon

never seen hail like we had here
and that is including even out in the mid-west

busted out our sky-light  :wall:
space age plastic crap like the windows on the space Shuttle

when water starts to drip from the poot fans in the bathrooms ?
you know you have a problem

but all in all , we were very lucky and VERY BLESSED  :worship:

I'm glad all of you made it though with minimal issues.

I don't know what to make of this weather. Being born and raised in Bama, we get used to bad weather in Spring. But not to the extent that we have seen over the last few years.

I'm beginning to think a storm shelter would be a very good investment.

This photo was taken in Bessemer/Birmingham Monday night.

Turns out, that photo was a fake.  It's been used numerous times.
Here's a video about fake weather pics, including that one.

The weather damage survey here has discovered that there were 6 different tornados in the county that night.
