Title: TXK's 2nd practice report cntd TE's
Post by: Toxik76 on March 24, 2011, 04:07:17 PM
TE - This years group has really worked hard on becoming complete players, most are already good or great blockers a few have been working more on blocking than others mostly younger guys like Vogler and Smelley and we've also been running every TE through a lot of the WR drills trying to work on hands and running routes etc Micheal Williams has become a good leader for this group. He lost some weight down to 255 and plans to get a shot at a LOT more chance to impact offense as a catcher out of heavy sets, but stressed to him he's got to yet better with his hands and he's working on that big time so far and we'll see how well he develops through Spring, if not he'll lose his spot. The guy we love a lot so far is Vogler, he's a great blocker, still a bit raw but expected for his age but his hands are VERY sticky soft for his size and he runs great routes just got to get better pass an run blocking. Smelley is developing nicely, he has a chance with his athleticism to make a huge impact this year just got to get better at blocking and become a total player. That's everyone's goal at TE is to develop into better receiving threats and it's a major focus. If we can develop Vogler into a better blocker he might end up as a 4 yr or 3 yr you never know starter though he's been by far and away the most impressive. Harrison Jones has also put on a good bit of weight getting bigger and bulking up and he's got to get a lot better blocking to become a more complete TE but he's another very impressive catching option already with his speed and hands so we might see him in special sets right now next year if he can beef up a bit more. This group is young and raw but the potential is through the roof and I know our champ year the TE was a HUGE key on offense and an asset and that's the goal for this group since we sort o missed that a bit last year vertically in the passing game bit Spring is ABSOLUTELY KEY to dscrolling this group into what Coach JMac wants from a TE perspective so it's gonna be interesting to watch the development.
