They seem to be playing as good or better than last year with a much smaller payroll. I've watched a few games and I don't get as disgusted as I did last year watching the multi million dollar players do nothing.

I could handle that job!

My question is though are they playing consistent enough to get in the playoffs? I still have my September date as to see where they really stand. Although our Orioles are not having as good of games as I wish they would. It seems to me that when the offense is on pitching is off or vices a versa. RTR!

Now this is a good thought and would be a good feeling if the Braves could prove me wrong. They seem to be playing some good ball at times but the streak you win is less than the streak you lose it's not good for your chances. RTR!

Braves Reality Check: NL Team Stats

Atlanta in hitting:

9th   in runs scored (the most important stat)
14th homeruns
8th  batting average
8th  doubles (tied with 2 other teams)
13th in total bases (which means we're hitting a bunch of singles)
8th  in steals

Braves Pitching

10th ERA (4.12, the lowest in NL is 2.73)
 3rd Saves
10th Strikeouts (tied with 2 others)
 1st Walks allowed
8th Teams batting average against Braves

Fielding:

5th Team Fielding @ .987 (outstanding stat)

SUMMARY

Team hitting is average, pitching is atrocious with too few strikeouts, way too many walks, resulting in a high ERA. Fielding is the only thing making Braves competitive.

15th in Walks Allowed

1st means you've given up the fewest.

They surprised me playing as well as they did out west. Not stellar, but better than what they usually do. Usually, a ship shaped bed comes to mind.

Considering the moves they made in the offseason, I really expected much worse. .500 and only 3 games back right now is much better than I anticipated.

And as bad as the O's have played for most of the season, we are only 2 games back of the Yankees. The AL East is just plain bad this year.

Depends on how you look at the stats, but they were first in the giving up the most walks.  It can be confusing. Reminds me of Braves pitching in the late 70's……awful.

Sunday:

Braves stage a big comeback win (7-5) over the Giants, scoring 4 in the 9th.  That gave the Braves a split in the 4-game series.

The Braves are 3 games back of the Nats.

Now that is impressive...  assuming the Giants are contenders again this year.

Never mind.  I see the stats show that we are still horrible.
