I anxiously await all the apologists who supported his coming to Alabama, mainly because Saban wanted him and in fact were holier-than-thou about it.

I'm not sure if I am an apologist regarding this kid or not but...if so, I won't apologize for my supporting Coach Saban for giving the kid a second chance.  Most people actually do deserve a second chance...

Quote
"We recruited this young man out of high school," Alabama coach Nick Saban said in February. "We felt that what we knew about him, what his high school coaches said about him, from what people at the school he was at said about him and where he came from in junior college that he was the kind of guy that deserved a second chance.

It was his third chance, not second chance. Do you support a 4th chance? Just wondering.

Second chances are great when they work and terrible when they do not.

Apparently you guys don't know what an apologist is, it's someone who makes excuses for someone else's judgement, actions, decisions, etc. I would never ask for an apology, the situation speaks for itself. There is nothing to apologize for, people make decisions or statements & then, as I said, the situation ends up speaking for itself.

Thanks for not losing sight of what is important. This is not about me & never was, it was about choices, fans, & principles. Nothing else. It was changed to me when I challenged a couple of posters for making  excuses for what I considered a very bad decision by Saban. Most of the posters took a guarded, thoughtful approach to Taylor's signing with deep reservations, but a couple just could not accept my strong objections to the decision, so they tried to make me the problem. That's what people do when they can't defend their own poor decisions & choices. Easier to attack the messenger.

Well maybe you are the problem.   ???

In all seriousness, though, it seemed like a bad decision to me too.  I was willing to give Saban some latitude because he is the one paid to make the decisions, and is a much better coach than I ever could be.  He also has managed to keep some trouble makers in check while playing for him.  But will all the good kids who really want to play for Bama, it seemed like we didn't need to add a bad apple to the basket, especially one with such a checkered history.  As I said at the time, the kid belonged at Auburn, not Bama.

SUPER BINGO!!! It's one thing to recruit a kid who has never been a problem then gets in trouble, but to sign one with Taylor's major troubles was like asking for a punch in the nose. What also bothers me is now every time this thug gets in trouble the headline will say,"Former Alabama Football Player is Arrested for (fill in blank)." Oh well, live & learn.

Now the media pile-on starts.

Quote
Based on the details of Jonathan Taylor‘s domestic violence arrest — his second in eight months, no less — there’s seemingly no way he can move forward as a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Quote
In response to the situation, the university released a very brief statement early Sunday morning that’s scant on details as to Taylor’s future with the university in general and the football program specifically: “UA is aware of the incident. The student has been referred to judicial affairs.”

It would be very surprising if another statement wasn’t released at some point in the very near future, perhaps as early as today, in which Second-Chance Saban announces that Taylor is no longer a part of his football program.  At least, based on the current evidence and Taylor’s prior track record, that’s what should happen, and the sooner the better for the sake of a head coach’s and university’s image that has already taken a hit because of the player’s actions — and because of the way his signing was so staunchly defended at the time.

I just love a smart-a*s journalist.

Report from the other thread:

I am fully behind Coach and his defense of second chances as an alternative to letting someone's life go into the dumps because they made one mistake. That argument is as compelling today as it was when he first said those things. But there have to be consequences for each new "bad act", and Taylor's consequence must be removal from the team if the charges prove not to be spurious. Coach must do this if he hopes that the next guy to whom he gives a second chance will cherish and make the most of that opportunity.

By all means, I accepted your strong objections to Coach Saban's decisions. Stop trying to use the "holier than thou" stance here.  I still feel the same way as back when Saban decided to give Taylor another opportunity to straighten his life out.  The only difference is that Taylor showed everyone that he is incapable of changing his life for the better right now and he paid for that by being dismissed from the team.  He still deserved the chance IMO.  For the record though, how did myself or anyone else attack you?  You defended your position and we defended ours.  I don't remember any personal attacks but my memory probably isn't as good as yours and I don't plan on re-reading the entire thread to see for myself.  I will say though, you do seem to have strong tendencies to argue for the sake of arguing pretty often though.  Maybe references to that is what you are thinking was attacks...  :eyeroll:

Actually, there is some truth to that. Several news stories about Taylor & Smith are out there & Monday the media will be in full screaming mode. Plus, Sims injury is mixed in some of the stories.
