Title: "John Metchie credits Bryce Young for game-winning route"
Post by: Chechem on November 29, 2021, 08:36:12 AM
You probably saw Metchie and Bryce Young discussing it before they took the field.  Maybe the play came from the coaches, but Metchie gave Young full credit.

“9 just gave me a route. I ran the route he called,” Metchie said after the game. “So it all goes to the quarterback. The kid’s the GOAT. Just following the general, man.”

Koolaid needs to be playing full time next year. Sounds like they went to  sandlot football. RTR!

Saban calls the route simply "in and out", but Bryce and Metchie knew how the Aubs were playing defense.  Roger McCreary (Aub DB) had been tight on the receivers all night, and was 1-on-1 covering Metchie on the play.  A strong fake inside was sure to force McCreary to commit inside, because he had no help inside.  Bama had enough protection for this longer pattern, so it was a good call, and it worked.

I can't remember if it was immediately before that play or one of the previous overtimes, but coming back from the TV timeout, I saw Young and Metchie talking one-on-one for what seemed like 30 seconds.

That's the one I saw.  I was thinking, 'Surely the Aubs are watching this, and know Metchie will get the pass'.

I think the great basketball move that Kool Aid made to knock down Auburn's last chance deserves a lot of credit.  He's going to be a good un!

Indeed he is going to be a good un.
But the pass was thrown poorly and behind their receiver.  Even 2 could have knocked that one down!  The rest of us would have intercepted it.
