Friday Practice Notebook

- Sophomore defensive lineman Brandon Moore was noticeably absent from Friday’s practice and BamaOnline has learned that the status of both he and senior defensive back Robby Green are in doubt.

- Junior Tyler Love appeared to be working at left tackle during individual drills, with sophomore Kellen Williams the backup center.

-Noticed quarterbacks A.J. McCarron and Phillip Sims swapping sides during passing drills. If you're wondering how the reps are being split this spring, that might be a good indication.

-good news on big Brnadon Ivory (who was rather soft and round last year) reports are that he had a VERY productive off season

First Day of Pads in Tuscaloosa
by outsidethesidelines on Mar 25, 2011 6:23 PM CDT in Football

Summary:

-This is not to denigrate the value and the importance of the work previously done, but as Bryant himself once said, "Simply put, football is eyes, movement, and contact," and at some point you have to strap on the pads to develop further and separate the wheat from the chaff.

-"Tyler Love moved back outside to tackle today, so it seems the time he spent at center earlier in the week was probably just a short-term experiment. With Love back at tackle, Kellen Williams and Chad Lindsey worked at center." Author believes they will be the key competiotrs for the back-up position and Ryan Kelley may get some consideration after fall camp but it depends on his ability to progress in the offense and his recovery from knee surgery.  Personally, I'd expect him to RS.

-"Michael Bowman remains at wide receiver, Anthony Orr is still at Jack linebacker, Ed Stinson is still at defensive end, and Vinnie Sunseri is still working with the defensive backs."  Author believes all seem fulid except Stinson at DE which will probably be permanent.  Personally, I think Sunseri sticks in the secondary and develops like Barron to learn both the SS, FS, and money position in the Dime.  I really think he winds up a SS for us.

-"staff split the snaps between A.J. McCarron and Philip Sims by changing sides during the drills."  Author believes the battle will go on into the summer and each will get an even number of snaps.  Will be interesting how they split for A-Day (as far as who gets the first team O).

I'm just curious as to what violation of team rules Robby did?

Aren't we all.  Looks like Moore has joined him in the naughty corner.  Tough comment to speculate that both of their futures are in doubt.  Doesn't sound good for either.  Tough break for all, but rules are there for a reason.

I pulled this quote from woolyal  I haven't seen the video reference but:

Quote from: bamax2natl
if you guys watched the Cecil Hurt show on the 3/25 video thread, he talks about Green
basically says it's behavioral issues

As was the common belief the year long suspension may not have been related to the current one.  And, some sort of failure to adapt/comply with CNS's process may be the current issue.

*addresses RG issue around the 14:20 mark as referenced above.  Hurt alludes to the fact that certain conditions were "most likely" placed on RG after his suspension and he "may" not have adjusted to meet them.

Practice Report: March 25 - Spring Practice #3
Written by nxojkt | 26 March 2011

Congrats to nxojkt, still the best Bama reports on the internet.

Quote
Here's what you need to know (summarized):

- no new injuries have cropped up during the first three days of practice.

- Robby Green and Brandon Moore absent from practice. No official reason was given for his absence, but the rumor mill indicates that his future in Tuscaloosa could be in question. Once we hit practice #8, if Moore and Green are not practicing, I think we can really start speculating on their future.

- No change to injuries. Barron's is the only severe out of the group, as he rehabilitates from surgery. None of the other injuries are thought to be serious at this time.

- Tyler Love was once again working with the tackles, after spending the first two practices at center. I expect we'll see him get more reps at center, and possibly even some at guard, as the staff looks to turn him into a utility lineman.

- Don't be shocked to see him follow John Michael Boswell and Alfred McCullough as the staff's primary backup at multiple positions.

- true freshman Vinnie Sunseri, who continues to impress by being around the ball and laying the wood. The son of Bama outside linebackers coach Sal Sunseri is making the move to safety, and he's furthering his reputation as an overachiever.  Cheesy

-  through three practices the overall intensity level has been good...There seems to be a fierce determination among some of the upperclassmen (most notably Dont'a Hightower, Courtney Upshaw, and Trent Richardson), and even some of the younger guys (most notably A.J. McCarron) to get the team back into the mentality that led to the high level of intensity seen throughout the 2009 National Championship season.

-Arie Kouandjio is giving Chance Warmack a real battle for the first team (organizationally) reps at left guard. ...There is real competition at both tackle spots and left guard...Expect to  see Fluker win the job at right tackle, but McCullough is pressuring for the position...Aaron Douglas seems like the guy to beat for left tackle but it is certainly not a done deal this early into the spring practices

-A.J. McCarron has stepped up his game in the leadership department, and has received rave reviews for his off season commitment in the weight room, the film room, and in voluntary pass skeletons...There is a ton of fan speculation that the loser of the quarterback battle could potentially look to transfer. If there is no starter named until the season starts, that likelihood drops considerably.

- Blake Sims and Phillip Ely both continued to work with the second units at quarterback.

-Sims is likely not in real consideration, but his skill set could see him in on some special packacges.

-Ely seems much more polished than expected for a true freshman and drew comparisons to a young GMAC.

-Alabama will practice again on Saturday, and we'll have our normal report.

Great reports so RG is kind of up in the Air so it is time to move on to the players who are willing to show love and respect for their home. RTR!
