**NCAA to speak to Danny Sheridan about Cam Newton 'bag man' report**

MOBILE, Alabama -- Mobile's Danny Sheridan has been contacted by the NCAA concerning information about the recruitment of former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton and expects to talk to a representative from the organization's investigation staff this week.
   
Sheridan was contacted through his attorney, Vince Kilborn, who said, "I can confirm that an NCAA representative called me Monday and asked to speak to my client about the whole Cam Newton matter."
   
Sheridan made waves on Paul Finebaum's radio show recently when he said that an NCAA source told him there was a known "bag man" who helped recruit Newton to Auburn.

If the NCAA deposes him, he will have no choice but to reveal the name and his sources or face consequences.

I realize that is true for the time being. But if the NCAA wanted to take him to task, they could go through the courts and do so.

The NCAA can deny participation and membership into the NCAA.  They cannot do much else.

For instance, many people want the cheater players punished, such as those now in the NFL who left their programs in trouble.  The NCAA cannot go after them in the NFL.  I've never understood why the universities affected don't sue them, though.  A university could sue the NFL athlete for millions if they can show damages that resulted from the player's behavior, pay-for-play, etc.

Because the university presidents feel it would damage the reputation of the institution.
