Alabama Baseball is off to a good start going 4-2 and winning both series. Now we go on the road. We play Southern Miss tonight and stay on the road to play a very good Louisiana Lafayette team. ULL is ranked 14th. Going 2-2 on this road trip would be good.

It is going to be cold and Windy in Hattiesburg tonight.

Tournament was played at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, PR. Rio Grande is a tourist area, not as famous as Old San Juan or Condado but it's a newer area. Beautiful setting and the kids must have loved playing there. Donald Trump has a fancy hotel/casino/ & I think golf course nearby. Another beautiful place. I either stay at a relatives beach condo or the Howard Johnson's.

The basketball game looks like the same old crap, both from a play standpoint as well as poor officiating. 15-8 OM at about 11 minutes.

The key to winning baseball is pitching and timely hitting. I am excited about our team but especially in seeing the development of clutch hitting. Plus, I am so proud of our university sports programs, especially gymnastics, softball, golf, women's basketball, football and more.

The baseball team plays the first game tonight, of a 3 game series against ULL, the #10 ranked team in the country. I was there this weekend and they have a nice facility. I was impressed with their football stadium and basketball arena, as well. Very nice campus.

I hope the pitching stays solid and our bats heat up. Would be great to take the first game and get off to a great start.

After a disappointing mid-week loss to Southern Miss we need to take 2 games in this series. Going 2-2 this week would be good IMO.

ULL has some good bats. They lead the nation in HR's last year and 8 players in the batting order return. Even with good pitching and defense we will need to score in bunches.

I have only seen UF play SC, but I was really impressed on how well they block out and are ALWAYS in position. They are well coached and they execute beautifully. If they don't have a letdown, I can't see anybody beating them.

They are not the most talented team in the country but they are well coached and play good together. Teams with mostly senior starters do good in the tourney. They went 18-0 in SEC play. That has never been done before.

Even Donovan will feel the pain after long 4 senior starters. It will be a rebuilding year for him but he will still win 20 since the SEC is in such a funk.

Fourteen games into the baseball season we are 9-5. The strength of the team is pitching and defense. The pitching staff ERA is 1.76 which is excellent.

We have lost 5 games by the scores of 2-1, 2-1, 2-1, 2-0 and 6-0. We could be 13-1 scoring just 3 runs a game.

We have a team batting avg of .258. We have some good hitters in the line up but we need to get more consistent throughout the line up. We have to improve our batting avg with runners in scoring position.

Overall we are off to a good start. We have a 5 game winning streak. We host Samford on Tuesday and start SEC play Friday by hosting Kentucky.

The men and women's track team has shown very good and fast improvement since hiring the new coach.

Men finish 6th, best finish in 12 years, win the 200m

Women finish 19th, first top 20 finish in 19 years, win the 60m

These programs are only going to get better.

I don't know their strength's this year but this is not very good so far. They are 10-7 with very few good wins. They took one game from Florida last week. Their RPI is 154. The only other SEC team with an RPI above 88 id Missouri at 158.

It is a good chance for us to win a road series.

I hope our bats keep improving. With the pitching we have, we could easily take 2 of 3 from Arky. I just hope the baseball team hasn't taken a page from the basketball team with road games.  :lol2:

We are 2-3 away from home so far. We lost 2 to current #8 LA Lafayette. ULF is 17-2 and we gave them one of the loses. We also lost to Southern Miss an a cold rainy night. We beat the barn in Montgomery which is looking like a good win.

Reading the box score this morning I noticed former Bama pitcher Tommy Hunter is the O's closer and got the save. I did not realize he was the O's closer. I am glad to see him doing well in the pro's. I just wish he would get his saves from another team and not the BoSox.

It kind of fell to Tommy by default. O's traded Jim Johnson, last year's closer, to the A's, then flunked another potential closer on his physical. I think as long as Tommy doesn't have home run-itis this year, he could be a good one.

Alabama Women's Tennis and Golf had good days yesterday and advanced in the regional play.

Quote
The No. 2 seed Alabama women's tennis team is headed to the NCAA Championship round of 16 for the second-consecutive season, advancing with a 4-2 victory over Princeton on Saturday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. With the win, the Crimson Tide moves to 24-4 overall, while the loss puts the Tigers at 19-6 overall.
Alabama took a 2-0 lead, however Princeton would even the match at 2-2 and would challenge in the remaining match before the Tide closed it out.

Quote
The University of Alabama women's golf team posted a second-place finish at the NCAA Central Regional Championship Saturday at the par-72, 6200-yard Karsten Creek Golf Club to qualify for the 2014 NCAA Championships.

"We came into the round with a chance to win, we didn't get that done, but UCLA is a very good team," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "I am very proud of this team. We had some adversity early. We started the round on No. 10, which is a very difficult hole, and we made some mistakes, but we bounced with an eagle and several birdies to get things going in the right direction. We could have thrown in the towel after that bad start, but we kept grinding, stayed patient and were rewarded for it."
