Title: Phil Steele likes Alabama by 'two touchdowns' vs. Auburn
Post by: pmull on November 28, 2014, 07:58:56 AM
Phil Steele is more accurate than most with his picks.

Quote
“Well, there’s always a chance, but I like the situation for Alabama this week,” Steele said. “... Alabama’s playing with legitimate revenge here. Now, (Nick) Saban’s twice lost to Auburn. They bounced back the next year and beat Auburn by an average of 39-7. I don’t think this is going to be one of those types of blowouts. But Auburn’s rush defense allows 4.8 yards per carry in the SEC. If Alabama can run the football, that really opens up their playbook. And against SEC teams at home, they’re averaging 536 yards per game. Alabama’s defense is holding opponents to 142 yards per game below their season average.

“And keep in mind, last year Alabama led that game 21-7, 28-21 and ended up losing the lead late. So I think Saban will point that out. If they get up, they’re going to want to get up more because they know it can happen late in the football game. And this year, I do think Alabama is the superior team. I haven’t really seen Auburn play a good game down the stretch, and I think Alabama is just waiting to play its best game of the year.”

I think he's way off on this one.  It's going to be 6-7 touchdowns.

I'd take 7-6 Bama as the final score.
But 49-0 would be sweet too.   :-*

I want to see Bama eclipse the all-time record for margin of victory for the iron bowl.  63-0 would be really nice...  8)

I do not expect a blow-out of epic proportions, but I would welcome it as a cool breeze on a sweltering August day. If the blow-out starts early and just keeps getting worse and worse for Auburn, I will savor it like a an icy cold drink on a sweltering August day. And I would fall to sleep with images in my head of Derrick Henry leaving footprints on the chests of Auburn defenders who did not have the good sense to step aside. I would wake the next day with the feeling that all is right with the world.

I stuck with 7-6 in the predict the score thread, but it's not going to be that close.  This is going to be a beatdown for the ages.

I do.

As PS points out, Bama has beaten the Barn by average score of  39-7 the year following a loss.  So I'm sticking with my 36 point margin of victory.

I am generally not superstitious except in matters related to Auburn. Their hatred of us, their current situation in which all they have to live for is ruining our NC chances, makes them a dangerous opponent. They have the luxury of trying anything and everything to win, with everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Pride cometh before a fall.

I will not jinx us.

There is one thing I have learned over the years is that, when Alabama vs auburn no matter what each team has you throw out the stats and records. They are useless in this game, don't believe just look back. JMHO. RTR!
