Of all the things that concern the Alabama defensive coordinator, the guy who tutors such knockdown artists as Courtney Upshaw and Dont'a Hightower, tackling tops the list?
Knock me over with a feather.
"I'm scared to death to have a poor tackling game" in the BCS Championship Game, Smart said during his last visit with the media Saturday.
His reasoning? Fear of injury forces coaches to limit tackling in bowl practice. Tacklers get rusty. That helps explain the flood of points in bowl games this season.
Smart didn't stop there.
He said that Alabama didn't stop explosive LSU receiver Rueben Randle in their first meeting in November. LSU did by not throwing to him much.
