Possible replacements for Kirby Smart.

Quote
D.J. Durkin, Michigan defensive coordinator

In the event Smart leaves to become a head coach, the best candidate available outside the South might be Durkin. The Wolverines defense has been one of the best in America this season, ranking 11th in Football Outsiders’ defensive efficiency rating. Durkin also has ties to the SEC, serving as Florida’s defensive coordinator as recently as 2014.

Kudos to Kirby. I hate it for us, but I am certain CNS will end up with a suitable replacement.

We all knew this day was coming. I still think UGA is too big a jump for an assistant. We shall see, but good luck to him (except against Bama).

Hate to see him go, but good for him. He deserves it.

SUPERCOACH needs to oil & tune-up Wall-e. He was slow on this major item.

The big question now is when does he leave and if Cristobal and Kiffen take another job in the near future what will all of this do to the team.

Good luck to Kirby because he will need it, being a head coach is a mighty big job compared to being an assistant.

Jeremy Pruitt might have a job awaiting him.

Watch for the name Gene Chizik as DC for Bama. I'm not kidding. It could happen.

He'll have to provide the name of the bag man first. ;)

The rumor mill says that Scott Cochran will go with Smart. I hope that doesn't happen.

My guess, since Richt is coaching thru the bowl game, Kirby will be there thru at least the first play-off game (December 31).

Coach Bryant used to lose the best and replace them with the best.

I've heard that, too. I've also heard that Cochran will wait a year to join Kirby, so that he will be fully vested in retirement. Guess we'll find out pretty soon.

Either way, Cochran will be easier to repacle than Kirby.  Occasional change can be good, especially when we're recognized as the best-equipped, best-paid, best-coaching staff in the nation.  WE'RE GOOD!

Kiffin will be gone too, and maybe Cristobal. The timing of all this sucks. We're playing for the SEC championship Saturday, then on to the playoffs trying to win another Natty. The Kirby announcement will be official after the UF game. I hope he stays on for the playoffs. He can't recruit anyway, because the dead period doesn't end until Jan. 14.

Apparently, at least one player is less than thrilled with the timing of the Kirby situation.

As long as we're speculating, Finebaum has said all year that he thinks Saban may step down if Alabama wins the NC this year.

Maybe we should just close the doors!   :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Well folks, as CNS says...It is what it is.  We just gotta see how all this plays out and deal with it.  Ass't coaches leaving is part of the 'game'. It happens most to successful programs like Bama's.  I'm thankful that CNS is in charge and trust that he will guide the team through this in the best possible manner.

But bad timing it certainly is.

I think CNS and Kirby will work hard to keep the team focused this week.  Then there will be a little time to sort it all out.

A fastened seat belt is probably a good idea!

Ohio State had tremendous turmoil right before the Big Ten Championship Game, like losing their 2nd starting QB. They had to go with a 3rd team QB with zero starting experience. Then OC Tom Herman was selected as HC at Houston, but coached thru the CFP. How did all that end?

I wish they would wait till after the Bowl season to do all this, afraid this will be a major distraction for the team.  >:(

Are we to assume, then, that the big smiley face is to show your glee at OSU's championship last year?
