When JoePa came out of his house last night with his wife, do you know what he said to the students gathered in front of his home?

Hey, you kids, get off my lawn!

Another thing:  the grad student who witnessed the acts...why the hell was he not enraged? why would not a red-blooded American male, football player, etc. not feel enraged about a grown man performing such acts on a defenseless boy?  And all he did was tell Coach Paterno?

My opinion is that the was scared for his own job..his own career..realized he had to do something, but took the easy road, depended on the higher ups to do the dirty deed.

As much as we impale JoePA,this guy also needs to be impaled on the sword of " did what was legal, but did not do what was morally right".
if this grad student had gone to the police .........right then!

He was... jovial, that is how I would describe it.
He wasn't "jovial", he's freakin 87 years old.  He hasn't really been the head coach for years.  It saddens me how all of this has transpired, but cleaning house is waht Penn State must do.  I think if this came out years ago I would expect more from Joe Pa.... at 87 years old I got what I expected.

jovial |ˈjōvēəl|
adjective
cheerful and friendly: she was in a jovial mood.

That seems like an accurate description of the videos I saw with him interacting with the students.

He certainly was not outraged at Sandusky, or depressed and sad about what happened to those kids, as I would expect him to be.  This was before he was fired.  He might be sad now, I haven't seen him yet today.

JoPa is old enough without the hyperbole; actually he's 84.

I'm afraid that Penn State fans are realizing that their idol (JoPa), like the former idol of Ohio State fans (Tressel), didn't have the ideals and virtues they thought.  JoPa put football first, and protected his program in the face of criminal behavior.  It seems that everyone who knew about the behavior yielded to JoPa and the program.

I'm saddened for them too.  They deserve better.  Sad

I think this is exactly what has happened.  I didn't believe it at first, but after seeing his reaction a couple of times I think this is a very accurate description of what has transpired.

BTW- congrats on making it to 1000.

I don't know what to think. Does one stupid mistake wipe out all the good he did for the university? Not trying to make excuses for JoePa - I really just don't know what to think "big picture".

"Yes, ma'am. I killed Doyle Hargraves with a
lawnmower blade. Yes, ma'am, Im right sure of it. I hit him two
good whacks in the head with it. That second one just plum near cut
his head in two... Its a lil ol white house on the corner of
Vine Street and some other street. Theres a pick-up truck out
front that says "Doyle Hargraves Construction" on it. Doyle said
besides sending the police, you might wanna send an ambulance or a
hearst. Ill be sitting here, waiting on ye."

If it were Houston Nutt or a less successful coach, people would be rioting to have him hung up in the middle of campus...not rioting to keep the legend going on his own terms.  To me it says something bad about a society where we value winning football games or being good to his football players over standing up for the rights of children who came from an "at risk" background to begin with.  The mark of a man isn't how he treats important people...it's in how he treats those less privileged, less fortunate, and less talented.

I don't disagree with anything you said. I just know that I am struggling with his lack of action vs. all the good I know he did for PSU and the State College community. Just a very sad, confusing situation...
