BCS: Alabama still in prime position

Alabama might have been off last week, but the Crimson Tide remained in prime position in the latest BCS standings. For the third straight week, Alabama checked in at No. 1, although Florida State replaced Oregon in the No. 2 spot after a 41-14 win over No. 7 Miami. The best news for the Crimson Tide is that they really don't need any help. In other words, if they keep winning, they're going to be in the VIZIO BCS National Championship Game with a chance to win their third straight national title. Read more...

Alabama could potentially face three more teams in the top 15 of the BCS standings, which would only bolster the Tide's standing as the No. 1 team if they can win all three.

Missouri and Auburn both jumped into the top 10. Mizzou, coming off a 31-3 rout of Tennessee, shot up to No. 8, while Auburn moved to No. 9 after a 35-17 win at Arkansas. ...

Notre Dame climbed two spots to No. 23. In an unusual twist for the Irish, Notre Dame is getting more love from the computers -- ranks of 15, 16 and 21 were used in the formula -- than from the polls, where the Irish are No. 25.

I'd like to see the computer criteria.  I'll bet ND not being in a conference is a benefit (no weak teams to drag you down).

If Oregon wins out, they should bump back up to No. 2, starting next week.  Their SOS is, by the computers, tougher than FSU's SOS, and the human polls have Oregon @ #2.  FSU ends the season v. Florida and then the ACCCG, so they'll get a bump then, but most "experts" think not enough to put them over Oregon if the human poll keeps Oregon @2.

I do not disagree with this scenario, but before this weekend the ACC had three teams in the top 10.  Now one of those sits one spot outside.

I personally give SOS to FSU over Oregon.  Of course, I have no vote.    Oregon would not hold Miami to 14 points. 

It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the season comes to a close.

If BAMA is able to win their remaining games and the SECCG either one of these teams will be a formidable opponent.

I think I would prefer Oregon. 

Fisher v. Saban.  That would be like Luke v. Obiwan.

Also, how did this kid from Bessemer, AL end up at FSU instead of BAMA?

I do not remember his recruiting.

Saban recruited JW hard, but he chose FSU, probably over earlier playing time, and baseball.  Bama was his second choice.

I think Bama beats either team.  I'm not sure who would be a better game.  Probably FSU, on the strength of their defense.

Oregon has struggled running their offense against teams with tough D lines.  Even Stanford has given them problems.  And LSU tore them up.  So while Bama sometimes struggles against these spread offenses, with time to prepare, I think Bama could mostly stop them.

FSU QB JW is elusive, but sometimes makes sketchy throws that a more experienced QB wouldn't make.  Bama's defense would find a pick or two.
