Title: Paris Terrorist Attack
Post by: SUPERCOACH on November 13, 2015, 11:19:16 PM
140+ people have been killed in numerous attacks spread out across Paris tonight.  New York is on high alert (just a precaution).

Turn on the news.

You're sort of late to the rodeo.

They think it is ISIS/Syria related.  A US drone killed Jihadi John early Friday morning (our time).  The terrorists invoked his name.  This Guy:

Personally, it seems to be an awfully fast response.  The terrorists already had to have the materials, planning and personnel in place.  I'm guessing they were planning some kind of attack, possibly on the COP21 Paris Climate Change conference coming up Nov. 30, which will be one of the largest international conferences ever held in Paris.  My thinking is that, after the drone strike, they decided to speed up their attack.  Although they had the materials and personnel, the attack itself seems spur of the moment, with limited planning.

Reports are they hoped to bomb the soccer stadium and kill the president.  I guess they couldn't get close enough and the explosion took place outside.  The situation is awful.

Hopefully the world will wake up now and realize that ISIS will not leave freedom and peace loving people alone if we leave them alone.  The nations with the ability to wage war against ISIS have sat on their hands for more than a year as ISIS has terrorized the Middle East, committing numerous outrageous acts of evil.  This was only a matter of time, and we're foolish if we don't think they're going to try the same thing in the U.S.

Yeah, I was watching it for awhile but was surprised we didn't have a thread about it already.

Hard to understand.

In one way it is but yet in another it isn't. Politically, the world is in total chaos as all of these factions are expressing themselves in a deadly manner which many have predicted would happen. We witnessed the tragedy in Boston not long ago which was bad but could have been much worse. Many argue that the borders of our country must be better protected to minimize such things that we are reading about this morning from happening here in the USA but the political minds in charge of the USA seem to think different. Will we ever see something of this magnitude happen here, there's a very good chance it wil happenl unless something better is done to prevent it and I don't see that happening in the near future. :(

Maybe that's why it just seems idiotic.

And we're letting 10,000 refugees into the US from the Middle East. What could possibly go wrong?

Yep.  Coming in through New Orleans. For the life of me, I cannot understand why this President is signing off on this.

yes, I don't do politics either.  Everyone has an opinion.  Not unlike some football discussions.   :lol2:

Sending the thread to the President's Mansion is probably a death sentence.   ;)

I'm not sure the US borders can be any better protected, or that that would solve much anyway.  A wall will just be tunneled under.  And a good bit of the border is the Rio Grande River; not sure how you build a wall there with the canyons and water.   I've been on these waterways, you couldn't, and wouldn't want to, build a wall.

It is much easier for ISIS to get into Europe than into the US.  And much of the terrorism in the US is home grown anyway.  Not only the Unabomber, OK City and Centennial Park Bombings, but all the shootings at schools and movie theaters as well, which has killed a lot more folks than died in Paris.

The Berlin Wall seemed quite effective.  :dunno:  The Great Wall of China probably was as well.  However there is no need to even build a wall along those parts of the border where the natural terrain is harder to get around than said wall.  No offense, but I think it is a little disingenuous to suggest that a wall would not do any good at all.

As for ISIS, another attack here is inevitable.  And at least some of the terrorists most likely will be U. S. citizens who have never left the country.  Additionally, there might be a handful of terrorists that came across the border illegally.  The majority of the terrorists though will probably be immigrants who came here legally from Europe.

We are at war with an ideology.  Or better said, an ideology is at war with us.  And in the Internet Age you can't really build a wall around ideas, at least not in a free society.  So to say that a wall would stop ISIS from coming here is just as disingenuous as saying that a wall wouldn't do any good at all.

We may be tired of war, but our enemy is not tired of trying to murder us.  As war-weary as we are though, I would still much rather fight them in Mosul than in Montgomery.

As for the mass shootings, that is a different problem entirely, although also an important issue to solve.  But I think we solved that one already in another thread.  :lol2:
