I have a sincere question for our fans. Should John Petty start against Maryland? Could that possibly ignite a fire under him, I just don’t know. I hope hscoach is reading this and responds. Petty has struggled mightily in about 8 of his last 9 games. Against Iona he was 3/13 FG, 3/8 FT and scored 10 points and had 4 turnovers. If you saw the game, Petty was totally out-of-sync with himself and the team. When he went to the bench in the 2nd half, Juwan Gary, Quinerly, Reese, & Jones started clicking in rhythm and scored like 12 straight points to take a solid lead. Petty made some awful passes yesterday and threw up some real bricks. Right now, he is a hinderance to the team.

Petty was not shooting well but he had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks and a steal. Coach Oats said at halftime they switched Petty to cover their best player. That player scored 4 second half points after scoring 15 in the first half. Petty won the”hard hat” award Oaks gives out each game.

Yes, he should start.

10 points on 3/13 shooting & 4 turnovers is just not acceptable. If he sticks to defense with an occasional shot that would be acceptable. If he starts off hitting some shots, then that’s okay, too, but he was not helping the team yesterday.

I say start him and see how the game takes shape.  But after 5 - 7 mins, if he's still missing FGs and FTs then I'd sit him until the 2nd half.

Somewhat depends on the game plan and what the coaches think Maryland's strengths are.

I think Coach Oats will start him. If he thinks someone on the bench can help the team more than Petty he should limit Petty’s playing time. He is a senior and team leader. Petty can get hot at anytime. No way I would bench him.

Well, a bad day for me & my family today. Our Chocolate Lab Sam died today. He was 11 1/2 years old. Took him to emergency vet hospital but he was too far gone. Old age caught up to him. Dumb as a rock but very entertaining and loyal dog. Grandkids loved him, too. Watching Tide play Monday will be a good diversion.

Sorry to hear about your dog, MD.  Always sad when this happens.

In other news of the day..... Iowa lost to Oregon 95-80. Are any B!G teams left?

MD we are both so sorry for Sam dieing. We know how we loved our 3 shealties. Know how feel to see a friend die. RTR!

Saw some of the Lady Tide game. They were in control most of the game. Amazing no NCAA game since 1999. Total embarrassment for the Athletic Dept & University.

Have been on phone and not able to see first few minutes go game. Super surprised to see Primo playing. We are getting a huge TEAM effort from Reese, Quinerly, Shackelford, Petty, & Primo. This despite our best player, Herb Jones got in foul trouble and is sitting. That’s what makes this team good, so many good players.

Maryland has an extremely active half court offense.   Lots of off ball movement creating open shots.   It's a real defensive test.  I'm proud of our guys with Herb getting two fairly soft fouls called on him early and having to sit.

And, yes, I got to listen to the 2nd half of the ladies' game on the radio today.  They fought hard and put away NC for their first tournament win in more than two decades.   Good job, ladies!

This was the steamrolling tide team from earlier in the season.  Let's hope they can stay in this groove. Team has to feel confident after last night.

All good teams from here on.  Pac 10 has four teams in the Sweet 16.  SEC has two -- Bama and Arky.  B1G has Michigan and I don't know who else.
