That makes the entire story more interesting to me.  If you are listening to Finebaum, you know there is speculation from Ohio that Tressel may step down.  WOW. :o  There seems to be even more to this than Tressel simply ignoring knowledge of the merchandise sales (for months) and lying about what he knew (to the NZAA). 

He's a god in Ohio.  As Finebaum said, today Tressel feels like "the emperor undressed."

Same here, Preacher. I have always had a great dislike for OSU, but I admired Tressel because he seemed to always run a clean program. Now it looks as if the feces is really going to hit the rotary oscillator.

As per OSU losing its only win over an SEC school:

"Ohio State should have to vacate last season's wins (with the possible exception, ironically enough, of the Sugar Bowl win over Arkansas, when the players were technically "eligible" per the NCAA)."  (same article as above)

I really think the NCAA has to do something here, at least have him suspened for a total of 5-6 games. This is so crazy. I think Pearl should sue the crap out of the NCAA if they don't demand more.

This supension is by the school. The NCAA can accept what the school has done or hit them harder. The NCAA has to do something or they will lose all credibility.

As far as I'm concerned, they have already lost all credibilty.

Just crap.  If the NZAA lets OSU get by with this, the rest of the schools might as well ignore the rules.

It goes byond that, they can never deny the bias they have towards Southern schools, including the likes of Miami, FSU, the entire SEC, and probably most of the Texas schools and Oklahoma. This really irks me in the worst way. All their self-righteous, holier-than-thou talk about following the rules, hammering schools in the South, and looking their nose down at the same schools, is so disgusting. The NCAA HAS to do something relevant or they will have ZERO credibility. I hope ESPN, Finebaum, Rome, Cowherd, and the rest are unmerciful towards Ohio State and the NCAA over this matter.  >:(

Hey Chechem you are right but think about it, OSU has not had a penalty since in the early 70's that I know of. It's not going to be much no matter, because of the bias. RTR!

Finebaum has spent the first hour and a half talking about NOTHING but the Tressel story.  Sportswriters and callers have been hammering Tressel and the OSU President for joking about it. 

Tressel's knowledge of the incident was exposed when the university compliance people searched through Tressel's email for information to use in their appeal of the player suspension.  Tressel was pissed that his email was being read.

Thanks, NC.  I was just commenting about Finebaum's show on the other thread.  This mess is NOT what Ohio State tried to sell last night.

Danny Sheridan tweet (per Finebaum) "odds are Tressel gets more time in suspension, plus OSU loses scholarships."

Now on Finebaum, caller is trashing OSU Athletic Director for dismissing the serious nature of this violation.  Caller points out that AD had Notre Dame connections (grad there), and caller said, "Embarrassment to ND as well."

Finebaum suggesting now:

1. OSU will lose all games from last year;
2. OSU will lose bowl victory against Arky; ;D
3. Tressel will have to step down. :o

I believe the NCAA will give Ohio State the other 90 percent of the penalties coming to them.

I hope so.  Joe Schad (ESPN just now) said he doesn't think the NCAA will complete its investigation of this before next season; OSU will have to decide whether to end the suspension after just 2 games.  He suggested that OSU might get further input from NCAA as guidance on what other punishment should come.

Caller after caller (many OSU fans) is suggesting Tressel's firing.  They feel like they were misled by the image of Tressel being "squeaky clean".  One OSU fan just said, "Why would you send your kid to OSU after this?"

Caller just reminded Finebaum that the 5 players involved were paraded out publicly and asked to each make a promise that they'd return to OSU to serve their penalty.  Each one talked about dedication and apologized to teammates, fans, and the university.

HOW DID TRESSEL STAND THERE AND SEE THAT, KNOWING HE HAD LIED ABOUT THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND COVERED IT FOR 8 MONTHS?

One argument on Tressel's behalf has been that he lied to protect the young men involved. On the reverse, he threw the rest of his team under the proverbial bus.

Lying has never protected anybody.  Its like duct tape. It will work for a short time, but when it falls apart it ends up like my last marriage.

People have been shooting that (confidentiality) all day.  Read the emails.  He was supposed to help ensure that players had no contact with that guy, including using a photo as a warning to them.  He could have had a hush-hush meeting with his compliance officer (as is required by NCAA) about this.  This doesn't fly.

Reports this morning say the email warning came from a former OSU football player. 

"A former Ohio State football player is the lawyer who sent e-mails to coach Jim Tressel to warn him players were selling memorabilia to a tattoo-parlor owner, the Columbus Dispatch reported Wednesday.

Tressel failed to disclose the e-mails, sent by Columbus lawyer Christopher T. Cicero, and will serve a university-imposed two-game suspension and pay a $250,000 fine, the newspaper reported."

True.  The theme of the callers on Finebaum yesterday was how surprised and ashamed they were at Tressel.  They had put him on a Coach Bryant-type pedestal, and he let them down.  He isn't the man they thought he was.  Many of them are looking into the mirrors this morning.

But I thought The Ohio State University was above this?

Their stock dropped by half during the past 2 days.  As one caller on Finebaum said, "Why would anyone send their son to play there after this?"  REALLY DROPPED STOCK.  And that was an OSU fan.

It couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of thugs.

I am seeing more about this, than us landing the biggest recruit on Earth. This is big, OSU is going have a new coach soon. RTR!
