I have heard reports of mountain lions in Alabama ever since I was a kid.  I have had relatives and friends swear up and down that they saw one (in the Tuscaloosa-Pickens area). I have no basis for this as I have never seen one myself, but it seems that when you start having people who do not know each other tell you they have seen something like this then it does make you wonder if there is not a little fire with all that smoke.

Everyone I know has a story about seeing one.  WV was not exaggerating.  I have heard the sound that most people would say could only be a mountain lion (screaming bloody death).  I would bet they are out there, just in small numbers.

I told my Mountain Lion story on TS but I'll repeat. The long, tall, sleak animal gracefully crossed (loped) in front of me, while driving down the road,--broad daylight. Everyone has one of these stories. The school bus was behind me and when we got down to the high school, I pulled over to make sure the driver saw it too. He did. No mistaking that animal for a bobcat, coyote, dog, or any other silly attempt to explain-- it was a mountain lion. And that is all I have to say about that.

I saw a grizzly in northern new mexico.  No one believes me either.

To be fair (I know, why??) there was an escaped lion in Tupelo, MS year before last.  Idiots keep exotic animals as pets, then when they escape they deny ever owning them.
A male african lion escaped from an exotic pets place here. Never heard any more. I am betting that animal is a rug by someone's fireplace.

LOL.  And my favorite was a few years back.  The price of Emu meat bottomed out, so all of the Emu farmers (??) released their birds.  It was right before Turkey season - ha.  They were everywhere, all over the highways, in the forests, even at people's bird baths (drinking).  Crazy.
