The early leaders are Zach Johnson thru 16 and Mark O'Meara thru 5 at -5. There's sunshine there today and not much wind so the scores should be better than usual but the tall grass is there.

Zach Johnson has finished his round and he is the leader at -5. A lot of low scores today. Mickelson is T6 at -2. Former Bama player Michael Thompson is T13 at -1 thru 12. Tiger is even thru 5.

Tiger and Phil both finish at -2 and tied for 9th.  Should be interesting to watch.

Ex-Bama golfer Bud Cauley had an interesting round.  He lead all golfers with 7 birdies.  However, he also had 5 bogies, a double on 18 and a triple on the first hole for a +3 total.  He had more birdies and more bogies than pars.

Tiger and Phil are right where they need to be after the 1st round.

Rory McIlroy is at +8. He needs a good round tomorrow just to make the cut.

McIlroy never should have contracted with Nike. The equipment change has really hurt his game, or so it would seem.

Would really like to see Bud play more consistently today. He'll need to if he wants to make the cut.

Tiger Woods is back to his old self with loud cursing on the course. I wish they would just eliminate the audio when showing the players during the tournament.

Bud Cauley finished at +9, he played the course pretty good the last two rounds. He had to leave there with a new respect for the game of golf, it was a very tough course. I can't remember when was the last time that foul weather didn't play a major role in the outcome of the tournament.

Congratulations to Phil Mickelson!  Applause E-Cred

As I watched him play the last three holes, all I could think of was can he pull off another one and yes he did. What a great champion and classy person. This win puts him right beside all of the great ones.

A few years back, especially when Woods came on the scene, all of the media said he would never reach greatness because he couldn't win the big ones.

Great win for Lefty. Fantastic back nine to win easily.

Now he needs a US Open win to complete the career Grand Slam.

Yep! and everyone counted him out. He's a gutsy golfer and it paid off today!
