Actually, I'm disappointed. After playing Michigan and Penn State, this feels like a comedown. I was hoping to see the likes of Wisconsin, USC, Texas, Oklahoma State, etc. I wonder if some of these programs are dodging us? I think it is a good matchup. WV is an up and coming program that put 70 points on Clemson in the bowl game under its new head coach, and it should have some success in the Big12 this year. By 2014, it might be the next Okie State, and a big win for Bama in that game, shutting down that offense, might help put to rest some of the Big12's claims of being a great conference that season. Also, Saban is from WV, so it adds another intersting angle that ESPN will beat to death before the game starts.

I watched the video that was posted on WA from the Decatur newspaper. RM was not the perp from what I saw, but was present when the accuser attacked the guy that was with RM. The accuser initiated the fight with the other guy. I saw nothing to incriminate RM. I went to WA to retrieve that video, but now you have to subscribe to get it. I call BS.
The video shows more than the press is reporting. It does appear that the accuser starts something with the other defendant, and that guys knocks the accuser to the ground and starts punching him. Someone, or maybe more than one person including Ro, tries to pull the guy off the accuser. The video doesn't show anything about a gun, so we don't know if/how that happened. It could be that Ro was included in the complaint because he is the guy with money to play a civil damages verdict. Perhaps it is a case of guilt by association.

If you thought coach played ball-control last year, just wait. He will play to our strength, which, this year, is the O-line. Big experienced line with 3 or 4 able backs, 3-5 yards a carry, TOP 40 min +. I don't care what kind of offense any one has: they won't score if they can't get the ball.
This^^ I don't think CNS will let Nuss light it up in every game. Ball control on offense keeps the defense off the field. If AJ is throwing it up a lot, we're giving the opponent's offense more time with the ball. That could prove dangerous with teams like Arky. If the rec show that they can get open and catch the ball, make plays, as well as pass protect from the front, I think Bama will throw the ball. Now if they get a lead then look out for the heavy dose of running. The O cannot allow the D to crowd the line with 7/8 in the box and not make them pay for it. Agreed, coach. Hopefully these young and talented receivers will step up and make the plays. Norwood looked good in the BCS game, so maybe he picks up where he left off. Seems like we have the most potential at WR than we have had a long time; now they just have to live up to it. Get those guys going, and then gash defenses with doses of Lacy, Fowler, and Yeldon, and I think the O will be able to score at will. Good observations you guys. I think the amount of passing we see will depend on the defense faced, as well as the other team's offense. So, we might see a lot of rushing against Arky and the Barn, unless they crowd the line. LSU, on the other hand, has a tough run defense, and like the BCSCG we should see more passing, especially if Bama can get mismatches with LBs covering a TE or HB.

After watching the highlights, I just have a couple of things. 1. I hope he can adjust to life in the SEC, because he wasn't exactly playing against elite DBs in those clips. 2. He ran the spread/shotgun in HS, so he will have t make that adjustment as well. I don't really doubt that he can since AJ did it very successfully, and we have the best coaching staff in football. His biggest adjustment is going to be the speed and power of SEC DBs. And he better put some weight on, or these 300 pd DLs will break him in half. I am still excited that he chose Bama, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do. Roll Tide. And FWIW, I like the nickname DB. It's more mysterious.
Scout.com has him at 205 lbs, which is bigger than some HS QB recruits that came to Bama. Brodie Croyle comes to mind. And Scout had AJ at 180 lbs coming out of HS. So I'm not too worried about his size. You are right about the DBs he faced, and the shotgun. He is coming in early, but likely (hopefully, because we won't need him) will redshirt to give him time to adjust to being under center and his footwork. What I like about his is that he has a big arm but still can place the ball where only his receivers can get to it. He also has good mobility and can run the ball when needed.

I think the author tends to put too much weight on the 'AT' (away) games he mentions and too little weight on the returning O-line talent and experience. Alabama typically travels quite well probably in part because Bama is a highly disciplined, focused team that doesn't depend on that home field energy to get out there and perform (like a certain Lee county school). I don't think you could ask for a more solid offensive line group than we have returning this year.
Good point. One thing about Arky is that they could not stop the run last year. Bama's O'line should be able to keep Arky's offense off the field.

While 'Bama will be better than everyone else on the schedule, there are four other landmines against Michigan (in Arlington, Texas), at Missouri, at Tennessee and at Arkansas. What is that guy smoking? I can see a potential loss to LSU, or rather I can see where a pundit could expect a potential loss to LSU (I expect 14-0). However, those 4 games are listed as landmines? REALLY? Tennessee? They may not even have a coach by late October. Arkansas has already lost their coach, and the players are dropping like flies as they go for the Fulmer Cup. Missouri will be welcomed to the SEC with a trip to the woodshed. Michigan will suffer the same fate as Clemson and Va Tech. The only thing standing between us and a repeat is a hungry LSU team out for revenge. ^THIS^

Good story. Hard to picture Denny Stadium with only 11,000 seat capacity.
I'll always remember the stadium when it was the lower bowl with chain link fence around the back. It is nothing like it was even 30 years ago.

I wonder where they stand with linebackers
Outstanding point. I would bet they are in the top 3 of colleges in producing NFL-caliber LB's. Plus, we do pretty good with running backs, too. Good points. Bama also is doing well with LBs and RBs. However, when you get a backup corner like Marquis Johnson drafted, that says something about the respect NFL coaches have for Saban's teaching (although drafting MJ was questionable.) Speaking of Marquis Johnson, rumor has it that he has joined the NO Saints. Click here for link

Click here for link1. Alabama vs. Michigan, in Arlington, Texas, Sept. 1: Nick Saban likes the idea of playing a big-name opponent at a neutral site. The Crimson Tide get the Wolverines in Cowboys Stadium to open the season in what will likely be a matchup of preseason top-10 teams. Alabama will be somewhere in the top 5 after winning its second national championship in three seasons a year ago, and Michigan appears to be on the move after Brady Hoke led the Wolverines to 11 wins, including a victory over Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl, in his debut season a year ago. USCe at Clemson and Auburn vs Clemson in Atlanta are ranked #2 & #3. Clemson getting a lot of love. Slim Pickens.

Glad to see Smelley making a name for himself. The kid from Alabama has looked good through two days of rookie minicamp. Make that the other kid from Alabama. Running back Trent Richardson, the No. 3 pick in the draft, came as advertised and has received the lion’s share of the publicity. But it’s Crimson Tide teammate Brad Smelley who has been the surprise of camp.

Another link, "Basketball, Gators behind Fla. State's Big12 Interest" Click here for linkThink about it: Even though the ACC's new deal will bring FSU up to about $17 million annually in TV revenue, that's still $3 million less than the Big 12. Not only that, but some estimate the recently expanded SEC's new deal could earn each conference school as much as $25 million per year. Translation: Over the span of the ACC's 16-year contract, FSU will earn $128 million less than the Gators. So, FSU is the Auburn of the State of Florida?
