My guess, and it is just a guess, is that maybe 2 of the ACC teams already told their commissioner that they would be leaving.  They agreed to give him time to find some replacements so that the ACC doesn't crumble like the Big 12.

Rutgers remains 'in contact' with ACC and Big Ten

Rutgers has been involved in talks with the ACC about possible membership over the past two days and its lines of communications with the Big Ten have remained open and "are active," according to a highly-placed college official.

"Rutgers has been in contact with both conferences," the person said.

The person requested anonymity because of the nature of the discussions.

Fearful of being left without a BCS conference to call home following the weekend decisions by Pittsburgh and Syracuse to bolt the Big East for the ACC, Rutgers is aggressively pursuing a possible landing spot outside the Big East, which faces an uncertain future now.

Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti, speaking publicly for the first time about the latest shift in conference realignment, declined to get into the specifics of what course of action the school is pursuing.

"With what we're doing, I would just say this: We're continuing to be engaged in talks with several parties, and I think that's been the case for a long time more than the last 36 hours," he said. "It's always been our practice to keep those types of talks private. I've always kept that stuff in the family and I think it's important that we continue to do that."

AD is probably a pretty good job so he wants all to believe he has his finger on the pulse. Same with Oliver Luck, the truth is they have gone years relying on the eastern media to keep them on the front page, but with these decisions depending on merit, are left at the mercy of REAL Athletic Directors.

1.  West Virginia University  
 Located in Morgantown, West Virginia, this school is home to the world's finest couch burners. They usually have a pretty decent football team and basketball team, although the 2009-2010 basketball team won the Big East Championship and made it to the NCAA Final Four. Many innocent couches were burned those nights.

Their biggest sports rival is whoever they happen to be playing that night, though they do particularly hate Pitt, and will usually shout "Eat sh@t Pitt" at games. The fans offten times make sports center because of their heckling tactics (which include shouting the name of a coach's misstress) and throwing trash onto the floor and at players from the other school. The rowdy fans are often times from New Jersey, but can be just about anyone from the school if they're playing Pitt. They burn couches and sing "Country Roads" after every game.

Mom- What should we do with this old couch?

Dad- Hey, let's send it to our son that goes to West Virginia University that way he has something to burn after the game!

LOL. That staying in the stadium after the game stuff came from the movie "We Are Marshall". They've never had an original thought, and are usually 6 mos. late with the national fads, like bouncing up and down like idiots to the Black Eyed Peas. They also have some kind of retarded finger roll thing they do which (I'm not real sure) is some kind of hex on the opposition.  If any of ya'll see my kids at the WVU game, ignore them,--it's what I do.

They hit a coach (maybe Miami) once with an upper deck trash can.

That was back when Miami was still in the big east, or maybe the first game back after they left the big east. Huge issue back then. I took it for granted everyone knew this.
