This we know for sure. By 1pm EST two teams, their school officials, their conference officials, their governors and US Sentators, their local media, and their fan bases, will be going full-out, apoplectic, bat-schize crazy, and this will be the second most entertaining thing that happens this weekend. I do not need to tell you what the most entertaining this was. Roll Tide.

The BCS was supposed to eliminate controversy and result in a clear champion. Then the four team playoff was supposed to eliminate controversy. I think 8 teams is inevitable, but then the arguments will be over who is 7 and 8.

Craziest seeding is FSU.  They prolly shouldn't even be in the final 6, but no way the committee will leave them out.  But if they're in, who's out??

If they weren't Florida St and the defending champs I don't think they'd get in. No way they get left out though, even if no one believes they're actually one of the four best teams.

True.  Consider it; Marshall got NO LOVE for being undefeated (when they were), but FSU gets into the playoffs by playing a weak schedule (poorly) and being undefeated.  Politics of being the defending champ (as you said), plus managing to escape the upsets.  Sad.

I'd love it if they were left out.  I'm sure some on the committee are voting that way, but no way they get left out.

Oddly enough, as inconsistent as FSU has been, I think they could beat Oregon and Ohio State. We will stomp a mud hole in their azz.

Do you think the Big 12 and Notre Dame will get the message sent by the committee, conference champs will play for the title.

Big time!

I'm thinking that TCU and Baylor get left out, especially after a big Ohio State win.  Besides not having a championship game, Oklahoma's loss hurts them both.  That was among their best wins.  With Oklahoma State beating OU, the conference strength falls apart!

You are dead on with your analysis of the Big 12 being left out. I have never understood why they don't have a championship game.
If you remember, the Big12 did have a championship game up until aTm and Missouri left for THE Southeastern Conference.  The Big12 now only has 10 teams and if I'm not mistaken I believe the NCAA doesn't allow a championship game for conferences with less than 12 members.

The Big 12 doesn't have a championship game because they don't have at least 12 teams, as required by NCAA rules.  There was a Big12 Championship game in the late 1990s, but when Colorado and Nebraska announced that they were leaving the conference in 2010, that put an end to the game.  The Big12 scrambled to add other members, WV and TCU, but TA&M and Mizzou moved to the SEC, and the Big12 currently has 10 teams.  OK and Texas weren't too much in favor of the game anyway, considering it an extra hurdle.

I don't like the message of "conference champs only."  Most years the SEC #2 can stomp a mudhole in several of the other conference champs.  This year for example,  Mississippi State could beat Ohio State, Florida State, TCU, Baylor, and Oregon.  For that matter, Ole Miss could whip most of them.  Auburn and LSU would give them competitive games and beat at least half of them.

If they are going to put such an emphasis on conference champs, then they need to have enough slots for all 5 conference champs and then 3 at large teams.  Eliminate one of the cupcake games and go back to 11 regular season games.

As for the 4 to make it in, I have no idea.  Alabama and Oregon are in for sure.  The others will know in about 20 minutes.

Just to be clear, I agree that the BEST 4 TEAMS should be in the playoffs.  But I think these clowns scheduled this playoff so the Big Ten could get in.  And that's what I think they'll do.

Without a doubt, were the BCS still in existence, we'd be playing FSU for the BCSNC.  But Oregon is better than FSU.  So maybe this playoff is working.

I think they should use the power index to determine the 4, not some group of representatives from the far reaches of the football kingdom.  Lots of lesser tribes among those far reaches!

Also in this scenario, some upstart could invent an NIT type 4 team or 8 team post season tournament to entertain us during christmas

Easy. The teams behind them had opportunities to show out against ranked teams and they did.
