Title: Senior Gymnast Geralen Stack-Eaton Wins NCAA Balance Beam Title
Post by: pmull on April 22, 2012, 03:41:42 PM
Less than 24 hours after winning its sixth NCAA Team Championship and sixth overall, the Alabama gymnastics team extended its three-day dominance on the beam when senior Geralen Stack-Eaton won the individual NCAA Balance Beam Championship with a 9.9375.

"Last year was great to have won, and to win again just means a lot for our team and for everybody else--the alumni and all the people that have been supporting us," Stack-Eaton said. "Today was just about having fun, and whatever happened would be icing on the cake."

It was Stack-Eaton's second individual NCAA title after winning the floor exercise last year. It was also Alabama's fifth individual balance beam title and first since Andreé Pickens won the title in 1999. It is the Crimson Tide's 23rd individual national championship. Stack-Eaton was also second on the floor exercise this year after scoring a 9.9375.

"It's kind of ironic that I won beam because I've struggled a lot on beam this season," Stack-Eaton said. "Today was about going up there and putting it out on the floor and I think I did a good job of that."
