It appears that Bama's next president will be Dr. Guy Bailey from Texas Tech University. Bailey is on the executive board of the NCAA and was a graduate of undergraduate and graduate programs in English here at the University of Alabama. He struck the right cord when he told his chancellor  that, like Coach Bryant told the Aggies, "when mama calls he has to go home".
He is the sole candidate, so odds look good.

Arkansas
1964

The polls crowned Alabama the 1964 national champion before bowl games were played. The rub: Texas wound up knocking off Joe Namath and the Tide, 21-17, while Arkansas ended the season undefeated. Frank Broyles' Hogs strung together five consecutive shutouts in the middle of the season and a 10-7 victory over Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl.

In theory, of course. We all know Joe Willie scored on that play.

I voted USC, in the BCSCG this year baby!

I guess that saves him a year of eligibility when Coach Gus leaves for Arky.

13192  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Report: Alabama declines offer to play home-and-home series with Wisconsin on: July 05, 2012, 11:36:55 AM
I agree that this game would do more for Wisconsin than it would for Bama.  Bama doesn't recruit in Wisconsin.  And Bama has scheduled games against other marquee Big10 teams.  With its power running game, Wisconsin would be an easy win for Bama -- our D is designed to stop the run.  And Saban did recently say that he would prefer to play more SEC games than add non-conference matchups (alluding to WV and VaTech, whom we play in Atlanta where Bama does recruit, and recruit well).

Funny stuff, we don't need no stinking badgers!
13193  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Aggies all in as proud SEC members on: July 05, 2012, 11:29:42 AM
I think TA&M and Mizzou are great additions to the SEC.  (USCe was lame when it joined, but has since become a good add.)  These two new schools field competitive teams in a number of sports and should carry the SEC badge proudly.  The SEC already is the premier league in football, and also competes nationally in gymnastics, baseball, softball and basketball.  Arguably, the SEC is or is becomming the dominant league in these other sports as well.  The two new schools can only add to the competition in the SEC and beyond, with complementary programs in these and other sports.  Nothing breeds success like sucess (and competition).    To me, the SEC's recent inroads in sports like softball signals the beginning of an era of dominance in these sports.  And while some may not like change, I think it is inevitable, with the SEC leading the way while other conferences scramble just to keep up.  The SEC had its first football championship game in 1992.  The Big10 and PAC12 are just now getting around to it, nearly 20 years later.  While I don't see Mizzou or TA&M being football powerhouses in the SEC, they will compete, and that competition will only make the whole league better.

So yes, it is about the money.  But it is also about the SEC becomming the most powerful, dominant league in the country, in a number of sports.

I lived in Rose in the early 80s.  We often had the fire alarm go off when someone put a burning item (cigs?) down the garbage chute.

Bummer; they took Traina out to save her for later games.  She played VERY well.
Yep, she could have finished the game, but this is the big league.

Just think what would have happened if you settled for Ocho Cinqo, or just Ocho.

Couple other Bama players on the team too. RTR

Traina looking good (just struck one out).  Who are the others?
Ashley Holcombe is a catcher who graduated from Bama in 2009 and was a grad. assistant.  Click here for link

Yeah, I was channel surfing too and saw the JTrain.

Texas A&M freshman Johnny Manziel, considered an option for the Aggies’ starting quarterback role vacated by Ryan Tannehill, was arrested Friday.

College Station police said an officer was on bicycle patrol in the Northgate entertainment district about 2 a.m. Friday when he noticed two men fighting. Police said a group of people were at the intersection of Church Avenue and First Street surrounding the men who were throwing punches.

Police said after they stopped the fight, officers asked Manziel for identification, and he handed them an ID that stated he was 21 years old....
Not very bright for a QB, is he?

Alabama's Nick Saban and Auburn's Gene Chizik are arguably the two best recruiters in college football, but the secret to their recruiting success may come through very different tactics.

Rivals.com conducted a survey of many of the nation's top football recruits at their Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta last week to find out what they thought of some of the nation's top college coaches, and both Saban and Chizik came up often during the survey.

Recruits named Saban the most intimidating coach they've dealt with by an overwhelming margin (he received 30 votes compared to just five votes for the second-place coach, Lane Kiffin.) One player, speaking anonymously, said "He doesn't do any type of grinning, smiling or laughing - none of that. He is what people say he is - strictly business." ........

 Laughing No really...STOP!!!!

I didn't read any where past that!

Yeah, that got me choked up too...

Glad he picked UGA. I guess we dodged a bullet.

No kidding.
Makes you wonder; after the weapons issues with Aub players, how common is it for players to carry guns?  Is it the norm among thug-type players?
Dont forget Rolando McClain.  Apparently it is quite common.
