The same day the Tide were picked to win the SEC by the media for the second straight year.

"I don't understand how you come to the decisions that you come to," Saban said.

Forget that -- the Tide are going to be a heavy favorite to be the overall preseason No. 1 in some poll or another.

"It means nothing."

Actually, it means a lot. Saban's fourth-year seniors have won 36 games and a national championship. Coach Nothing-To-See-Here has the goods to deliver a second title in three years and the third of his career. He knows that. He just doesn't want his team to know that.

So if we go 14 and 0 this year, the seniors will have a record of 50-5.  Is that right?  What is the NCAA record for most wins by a class?

That is an excellant question SC. I have been trying to look it up and not getting anywhere. I have an e-cred to give someone that can come up with the correct answer to the question "What is the NCAA record for most wins by a class?"

I am thinking it is 48 or so, and the record was set recently by Florida.  I think it was the 2009 season.  It seems like that was one of the news stories right around the SEC Championship game that year, or maybe after the bowl games.  This is just a vague memory though and could be completely wrong.

Florida was 13-1 in 2006, 9-4 in 07, 13-1 in 08 and 13-1 in 09. That is a 4 year total of 48-7. That is pretty darn good. I doubt anyone has had more wins in a 4 year period.

Bama had a run in 71-75. We were 11-1 in 71, 73, 74 & 75. We were 10-2 in 72. So we had a 4 year run of 43-5 from 71-74 and 72-75. That is a winning pct. of .895. Florida 48-7 winning pct. is .872.

I thought I remembered that.  What I can't remember though is whether they said it was an SEC record or an NCAA record.  I think it might be tied for an NCAA record, but I'm not sure.  It isn't possible for anybody to have more than 48 wins over for years until they started playing more than 12 games in a year.  So that rules out a whole bunch of dominant teams from the old days.

Alabama also had a nice run from 91 to 94, but I don't remember the total.  Let me go look it up.  I know it was 11-1 in 91 with the only loss coming early in the season to Florida.  Then 92 was 13-0 obviously.  We also started out really strong in 93 continuing that win streak until a tie against UT that October.  I forget the rest.  I will go look it up and be right back.

91:  11-1
92:  13-0
93:  9-3-1  (Our very last tie ever by the way.  Overtime came soon after that game.)
94:  12-1

That is total of 45-5-1 if my math is right.  Not bad.  But I guess officially it doesn't count because of the Antonio Langham fiasco.

Angry  The NZAA better throw the book at all of these cheaters they are investigating today.  We had to forfeit almost the whole season of 93 because Langham spoke with a sports agent at a bar after the Miami beat down and signed an agreement on a napkin, then later changed his mind.  Now compare that to what OSU and the barn, along with the others, have been doing.

Thanks.  Agreed, no comparison; a napkin vs. a wheelbarrow of cash.  Unfair (insert 8 frowns).

The 91-94 run was nice. I always thought Stallings 70 wins in 7 years was impressive. At that time (11 game regular season) averaging 10 wins a year was good.

^^^THIS^^^

And the idea that he would break the rules to get an advantage is ludicrous.
