It may even be true, but don't go there.  Read my signature.

Quote
Tide defensive back Hootie Jones believes the referees contributed to Alabama losing its poise in the title game loss.

"They were getting a lot of calls," Jones said. "We felt like the refs were just against us. I'm not saying we got out of poise on our own. We felt like it was starting to be taken from us."

Jones was quick to point out no matter what the referees did, it was on Alabama to finish the game. But he wasn't the only Alabama player to have questions about the officiating, particularly on two plays that resulted in Clemson touchdowns.

Yes, Clemson ran a ‘pick play’ to beat Alabama. But it was totally legal.

I wish Hootie hadn't said that.  That sounds like sour grapes on his part.  The better team won last night, plain and simple.

No! It was a pick play by rule.

After watching the play again this morning, I think it was legal.  It seems like the first one was much more egregious.

But we do need some consistency on this.  Notre Dame ran that same play against FSU and it was called a penalty.  If it is a legal play, we need to come up with a better way to defend it.  The defensive end needs to get his hands up and knock it down, and the DBs need to switch off and swap men.

Having said all of that, we are Alabama.  We are not going to whine about the officiating, that is what barners do.

Look, Clemson won.  Okay, congrats to them.

As per your link, this is the pertinent quote:

Quote
Offensive players, on passing plays, are restricted from going downfield and blocking anytime from the snap. If the ball is first touched behind the line of scrimmage, then that would be legal, and it's OK, but if the ball is touched beyond the line, then it's offensive pass interference.

Clemson did win and I congratulated them, but it still sticks in my craw.  Banging your head against the wall.

Meanwhile back on  football....

Refs may have missed a call on the first pic play but that's part of the game.

IMHO we lost because the O couldn't do enough to help out the D.  Jalen needed to pass for 175 yds.  He got 131 and half of that came on the long TD play to OJH.  Another 50 yds of passing spread over 3 - 4 plays could have resulted in 3 - 4 more 1st downs.  Or, the OL could have executed better so that RBs could have picked a 1st down or two.

Three more 3rd down conversins would have enabled Bama to possess the ball for at least another 4:30, maybe a little more.  Even if it didn't result in points scored, it would have kept D Watson and the Bama D on the sideline, and reduced the number of plays the D had to run.

O's weakness was glaringly exposed vs. LSU.  There was time to fix it in the last few games.  Didn't happen.

Roll Tide anyway.  Hold your head high Bama.  We'll be back!!
