sorry, but reading is antiquated.  Too slow, not enough information.

I am personally offended by this and heartily disagree. I just read a new book about this new thing called the World Wide Web. You wouldn't believe what this guy said you will be able to do with it.

SERIOUSLY though, as a history major, reading is pretty much my bread and butter.

Reading isn't my bread and butter but I cannot imagine a day without reading. I read as much as I can. Lights do not go out at night without at least a chapter being read Smiley

I think the General's disinterest in reading explains a lot.

It is self explanatory, if you read more you would understand.

My point was that it is antiquated as a way to take in information, in other words, there are better ways to learn.   Plus it's one of those fun things to say and get peoples reactions.   I understand reading for enjoyment.  The girl likes to read before bed too.

Well, I'll agree that Google has banished reference books. I have several encyclopedias that I haven't opened for months. I remember when encyclopedia salesmen used to knock on the door. And the local library hardly draws a crowd. But I do buy books that appeal and aren't on the Web. Good old Amazon.

Well, I can't agree, but I won't argue. I respect you opinion general and promise that if you go before me, I will read your obituary either in the paper or online, and I won't hold it against you if you don't read mine.  Wink Cheesy Tongue

What other ways are there to learn besides reading? Sign language, mind reading, dream interpretation? Just wondering.

 Huh?

The best way is hands on.  Then there is video, interactive computer programs, powerpoint presentations, etc.

This part of my argument isnt that much of a stretch.  Whats funny is how defensive everyone is about reading, lol.

I don't disagree with that. I can only speak for my line of work (archives/history) and tell you that much of what I do is centered around reading texts. Everything, though, requires some amount of reading, even if it is just short paragraphs, whether they are on the computer, in powerpoint programs, or even on videos occasionally. I assume that your are referring to reading entire books on a subject, though.
