So because of my job, I got to go to Athens, TN for their chamber dinner. CNS was the guest speaker. He was asked over a year ago. He agreed and boy did this thing turn into a pep rally for Bama fans. They have had many celebs come for this dinner. But this one sold out. 1500 people at 50 bucks a pop. Bama fans came from all over to listen to Coach.
Anyway my story...we as media members were not allowed under the tent and also were not allowed to talk to CNS prior to event. All that changed when he saw all of us waiting. He gave his time to us and the thing I took away was how genuine he was with his thoughts. The questions were rather easy...being in vile country did he want to kick the vile? He took the high road. He was asked about what he was going to talk about, then it hit me. He said, he came from a town the size of Athens and how important something like this was to him. He said sometimes you do things for the right reasons. They really made me think. He was there to give his time. Time is very important, we would all like more of it. It was truly an honor to hear him speak.
Lastly, there were some vile fans there who had the smarts to just listen. Not often do you get to hear about how to make yourself better and be motivated. People just wanted to hear from a winner. Finally his speaking fee was going directly to the Nick's Kids foundation. He didn't pocket a dime from it.
All in all it was a good night and I didn't mind working late overtime or not.
RTR everyone!

Good story 87.

I was wondering if you were there.  I thought about you when I read the article about the Alabama fan that yelled "Dream on!  Not in my lifetime" when the UT fan was talking about hoping they beat the tar out of Alabama this year.  Was that you?

I was worried going up there, because we had heard about ut rednecks protesting. There were no protests and it was really classy. There was plenty of Yea Alabama and Sweet Home Alabama being played. It really felt like an alumni event.

That is something that little area will never forget. Isn't it amazing how people are now recognizing what a genuine person he is. When he first came to Bama, most everybody had him painted as a scalliwag and a carpetbagger.

2stater nailed it.  There are a bunch of Saban/BAMA haters out there that have no idea what the University of Alabama is all about.  I can be disappointed but firmly believe that Coach Saban is the genuine article.  And I mean that in the best possible way.  Thanks for the story 87 and ROLL TIDE!!!

CNS has built his dynasty and he is going to build it bigger. Just sit back and hate but watch the process. RTR!
