TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - It's a good thing football games are settled on the field and not by coin flips.

Alabama has lost the opening coin toss four times in five games this season. But a lot of good it has done opponents.

Three opponents that won the toss elected to receive the opening kickoff. Kent State punted after a three-and-out, Penn State drove for a field goal and Florida threw a touchdown pass on its first play from scrimmage.

North Texas won the toss but elected to kick. The Crimson Tide drove for a field goal.

Alabama won the toss against Arkansas and elected to receive the opening kickoff. It went on to score on a touchdown pass from AJ McCarron to tight end Michael Williams on a fake field-goal attempt.
