Title: Is Mullen getting a bad rap?

What do ya'll think about this?

West Mesquite (Tex.) High School QB Chason Virgil is no longer committed to Mississippi State and his coach isn't happy about it.
Virgil said he was requested by Mississippi State to greyshirt, which means he was asked to enroll as a freshman in the second semester of his freshman year. He's scheduled to graduate early from high school in December.

IMHO, definitely bad form for MSU to force a switch to greyshirt this close to the guys HS graduation date. Greyshirt is an option schools need to use at times but they gotta be considerate and let guys know early in the recruit process.

At least this guy seems to have some good options.

Also gotta wonder if MSU has gotten a quiet commitment from another QB they like better.

Bama and other schools do the same thing. Darius Philon is the most recent I can remember. He is now at Arkansas and is one of the best Def Lineman in the SEC.

30 commits but allowed only 25. Plus, that many 3* guarantee a lot of 7-5 seasons in SEC.

According to Rivals' team rankings, Mississippi State has the No. 12 class in the country with 30 commits, including 23 three-star recruits.

You have to admit that Mullen does a hell of a job with all those 3 star players under his wings.

Don't confuse this year's record with his previous teams. Here's a breakdown:

2009  5-7  3-5 (SEC)
2010  9-4  4-4
2011  7-6  2-6
2012  8-5  4-4
2013  7-6  3-5
2014  9-1  5-1

Plus, potential disasters await MSU. Arkansas & LSU are improving & MSU graduates 13 seniors this year. MSU always plays the 4 most pathetic non-conference teams around, guaranteeing them 4 wins & their permanent SEC team from the East is mighty Kentucky. No doubt he could do better at Florida, I just don't know how good.

I think location matters when recruiting kids.  He has done a pretty good job at MSU but given a chance he could do even better at UF.  UF needs to do some serious upgrades to their facilities for whomever gets hired down there but that too should help them...
