Didn't know you guys were into weapons.  I'm off to a Gun Show this weekend (Southaven, MS).

The gun thread was down in halftime.

Never even looked at it.  I collect older knives mostly.

Some Walther Pistols and Belgium Browning.

I recall a Sunday morning on TS when I said I was "off to work" (going to a show).  I had tables at that one.  Someone answered, "You a preacher?"   Grin  Hardly.

I have noticed that you know your daggers.  Cheesy

I just got into shooting lately as a hobby.  I have a 100 yard target set up in my back yard.  I dont hunt.

No, me either now.  I used to hunt ducks and doves regularly (Louisiana), but never deer.

I have a friend in the country who has a target range (his field).

Thanks for the evening.  Enjoyed this forum.

I am buying the Ruger LCP this weekend to carry. Happy birthday to me!! My other gun at the house is a S&W 357 4" 7 shot revolver Smiley

I barely notice it when I carry it--I have it in a Blackhawk size 1 pocket holster.

I'm not a big fan of the trigger pull, but then again, I didn't buy it to put thousands of rounds through it at the range.  I bought it for my wife, who has yet to get her concealed carry permit, so for now it goes with me.

I really like 1022; have several and sold one recently.  It's a good Ruger, easy to clean, clip (safe), and inexpensive.  Semiautomatic, but okay for kids under supervision.  There are plenty of upgrades, but first I'd consider adding accessories.  You can get different stocks, scope mounts, laser sights, additional and different magazines, and much more.

If you upgrade within 22, consider some of the collectible European rifles.  There are some great old Mausers and other hunting rifles that will become guns for life (collectibles) for him.

If he can handle heavier guns, 30 cal... (opens all doors).

I'd stay with a 22 cal for someone who is 12.  Ammo is cheap, and there are plenty of options.  If he wants to kill deer, that's different.

Bottom line: I'd invest in a vintage Mauser.  Go to a local gun show or shop and try some of them.  The old Mausers are sweet.  Don't forgot to let go of it after you buy it FOR HIM. Cheesy

Wow.  A 12 year old would probably like one of the tactical set ups.  If you google Ruger 10 22 accessories you can find many different stocks.

I use to have a British 308. That thing sure made a loud noise when you fired it. RTR!

Sorry to again hijack. But for easy carry pistols, the woman's Smith .38 titanium is the ticket. I carry it when wearing a suit.

So Smith, have you looked into reloading your ammo. Maybe the fad will wear off, but if you continue to shoot as much as you have, it may be fun as well as thrifty.
