Title: BAMA on ESPN2 Thursday @6CST v. Oregon State
Post by: BAMAWV on November 13, 2012, 04:22:25 PM
So while looking at our sched. on espn.com I noticed our rankings in various categories. The one we can really wrap our arms around is 113th in FG PCT (LOL). I guess they don't even find defensive stats worth mention. BTW, I think I saw our rebounds per game ranked at 258th in the country. Maybe that is due to our shooting being so good there is just not all that many rebounds available.  ???

It is too early for those stats to mean anything. We played a pretty good team in SDS. Most schools have not played a respectable team yet. We will find out a lot about our team in New York. The schedule on your link does not include the game on 11/16 which will either be Purdue or Villanova. We have two tough games this week.

So I guess Friday night game will be ESPN2 also? I was just trying to be LOL on the stats. You are correct, but I was serious about ESPN disregarding "points allowed" (defense) as a critical stat.

Rolltide.com article on the Tide's trip to New York.

Quote
The Beavers and Crimson Tide will play in the first game Thursday with both teams sporting a perfect 2-0 record. Alabama defeated South Dakota State (60-57) and West Alabama (80-49) in the Tuscaloosa Regional, while Oregon State captured wins over Niagara (102-83) and New Mexico State (71-62) in the Corvallis Regional.

Purdue (1-1) and Villanova (2-0) will take the floor immediately after the Alabama-Oregon State match-up. The losers of those games will play at 4 p.m. CT (5 p.m. ET) Friday in the consolation game on ESPNU, with the winners competing for the 2K Sports Classic title in primetime Friday night on ESPN2.

Leading the Crimson Tide will be sophomore guard Trevor Lacey, who is off to a sensational start to the 2012-13 campaign. A native of Huntsville, Ala., Lacey is averaging 19.0 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds a game this season. He is shooting 65-percent (13-of-20) from the floor and a remarkable 70-percent (7-of-10) from beyond the arc.

Oregon State coach Craig Robinson was an All-Ivy League player at Princeton in the 1980s and a bond trader in the 1990s before getting into coaching. ... Robinson is the older brother of First Lady Michelle Obama and brother-in-law of President Barack Obama.

T-REL with 12 BAMA up 35-32 HALF.

OSU keeping it close with 3-5 3s, but overall shooting is close. Tide has forced 12 turnovers. Looks like someone is not used to "D". LOL

For a freshman, Pollard isn't afraid to mix it up. OSU brings it back to a 10 pt. Bama lead. Tide outrebounded but not since the 12-2 run. Still a 10 pt. Bama lead.

Bama outshoots OSU at the line but the real difference in the game was the forced turnovers. OSU finishes with 17 turnovers but outrebounded Bama to keep it close. CAG said BAMA playing "not to lose" in 2nd half.

CAG said in his interview right after the game that during the 8:00 time out he felt the team just wanted to let the clock run out. They lost their aggressiveness. I think he was dead on with that comment. He needs to fix that.

In the last 1 1/2 minute we missed two front ends of one & one free throws. The first by Steele and then Cooper. Those free throws could have sealed the win. In the future we need to hit the clutch free throws late in the game.

Lacey looked great again tonight. He is healthy this year. It makes a difference. Releford was just being Releford. Another solid game. He gets more points in the paint than most 7 footers. Big shot by Cooper.

I'm not sure how good Oregon State is but they have 4 staters and the 6th man back from a team that made a deep run in the NIT last year. I think they will be a top 100 team which will help our RPI later on in the season.

Over all good win by the Tide. We are 3-0. We need to get # 4 tonight.

'Nova avg. 82 a game so our disruptive "D" will take them out of their normal rhythm. Maybe CAG is playing the Swede to gain some experience and he did have what could've been his best game ever. JMHO but 4 pts., and 3 rebounds don't make up for 5 PF, a turnover, and a clogged up lane.  His value (again JMHO) seems to be as a practice dummy.  We were almost doubled in rebounds last night and it could be worse tonight.

BTW, my second guessing CAG is taken from watching 1 game. He has the team every day.
