Title: Week 3 Games
Post by: Catch Prothro on September 08, 2013, 12:34:30 AM
Here are 15 possibilities.  I think all of these are televised somewhere.

12:00 PM   No. 8 Louisville at Kentucky
12:00 PM   Tulsa at No. 16 Oklahoma
12:00 PM   No. 18 UCLA at No. 22 Nebraska
3:00 PM   Boston College at No. 25 USC
3:30 PM   No. 1 Alabama at No. 7 Texas A&M   CBS
3:30 PM   Tennessee at No. 2 Oregon
3:30 PM   Georgia Tech at Duke
6:00 PM   No. 20 Washington at Illinois
6:00 PM   Iowa at Iowa State   FOX Sports 1
7:00 PM   No. 3 Ohio State at California   FOX
7:00 PM   Vanderbilt at No. 6 South Carolina
7:00 PM   Mississippi State at Auburn
8:00 PM   No. 14 Notre Dame at Purdue
8:00 PM   Ole Miss at No. 15 Texas   Longhorn Network
10:30 PM   No. 21 Wisconsin at Arizona State

Probably everyone is going to want these 6 games:

12:00 PM   No. 18 UCLA at No. 22 Nebraska
3:30 PM   No. 1 Alabama at No. 7 Texas A&M   CBS
3:30 PM   Tennessee at No. 2 Oregon
7:00 PM   Vanderbilt at No. 6 South Carolina
7:00 PM   Mississippi State at Auburn
8:00 PM   Ole Miss at No. 15 Texas

So need 4 more from:

12:00 PM   No. 8 Louisville at Kentucky
12:00 PM   Tulsa at No. 16 Oklahoma
3:00 PM   Boston College at No. 25 USC
3:30 PM   Georgia Tech at Duke
6:00 PM   No. 20 Washington at Illinois
6:00 PM   Iowa at Iowa State   FOX Sports 1
7:00 PM   No. 3 Ohio State at California   FOX
8:00 PM   No. 14 Notre Dame at Purdue
10:30 PM   No. 21 Wisconsin at Arizona State

__________________________________________
NOTES

I like Ohio State v. California, since we haven't picked them yet.
Wisconsin v. Arizona State is a Big10 PAC12 matchup on late night.
USC and Notre Dame might lose again next week.
Is Tulsa any good?  Because that In-state rivalry could be interesting, and we haven't picked Oklahoma yet.
Louisville will probably spank KY, and the line should be high, very high.
Got another Duke game for Chechem, this one a better, ACC matchup.
Washington at Illinois?  Don't know why I listed that one.
Same with Iowa v. Iowa State, which will put anyone outside the state of Iowa to sleep.

A question.

Do we need to have our picks in for the week by Sunday night?

I missed, or forgot, this nugget of information if that directive was given.

Nope, you can put them in any time up until about 10 minutes before the game is scheduled for kickoff.  Once a game gets close to kickoff, you can't change that one any more but you can change the others that haven't started yet.  If you forget to put them in altogether, then you can enter picks for the ones that haven't started yet but it won't let you pick the others.  So you will have a smaller pool of games for that week.  That is why XBAMA was 6-3 last week instead of 7-3 or 6-4.  He didn't get his picks in before the Friday night game started.

I put the games in last night, but the site I use to get the point spread didn't have any lines posted.  They still don't this morning.  So I may look around for a different site a little later today.

No, I meant to have selections considered to be included in the week's picks.

Your previous post answered my question.

You input selections for the week on Sunday evening.

I am use to Monday night deadlines.  I will adjust my schedule.

We were a little slow last week because of the long weekend.  Normally I put the games in on Monday throughout the day.  Last night I started a little sooner than usual.

We can still change a few since I haven't put in the point spread.  What are your top must have games that weren't in CP's final list of 10?

yep , I screwed myself out of being 7-3   :wall: :wall: :wall:

I need to pay closer attention to the time frame
and I only missed it by about 30 minutes

These are the two games that differed:

Air Force at Boise State
Boston College at USC

Instead of Louisville v. Kentucky and the Thursday night game, TCU v. Texas Tech

I liked the Ohio State v. Cal game but didn't see a line for it yesterday. It appears now to be 15 points.  The game is televised on FOX.

BC v. USC also seems to be around 14-15 points depending on the service. Unfortunately TV is on the PAC12 Network.

We also have to consider whether we want a Thursday game this week.

Any votes on these games?

10 games, right?

If we take your list with my changes and add Texas Tech v. TCU instead of Rice v. Kansas that will give us 10.

My normal site is sportsbook.ag, but they didn't have a line for it.  I got it from here:

http://www.covers.com/sports/ncf/ncf_lines.aspx

I'm not sure if it is right, but we will go with it for our contest.

I also got the Texas/Ole Miss line from there.

I got 15 points from Vegas Insider.  Apparently that is what is being offered at the Hotel Wynn Las Vegas, which has Ohio State favored by 15. Most establishments don't want to touch this game.

The site identified on your link as the source for a 7-point line, Carbon Sports, also appears to have dropped the game -- I don't see a line on their site.

I think what some people are wondering are, shouldn't it be Ohio State -7  ?

Anyway, that's why I was avoiding this game.  Perhaps we should grab another?

I didn't believe it either, but that is what is listed (and still is, at least on the site I linked).  We'll leave it in since some people have already made their picks.  Consider it a freeby.

If Braxton Miller is definitely out for the game though, then I honestly don't know what that should do to the line.  Does Cal even have a team?  Does OSU have a backup QB?  :dunno:

That was the only place I could find a line, and I looked at it about 4 or 5 times before I took it.  I just assumed there was some news on Braxton Miller and/or other OSU injuries.

Consider it a gift from the house.  ;)

Ohio State +7, go bet everything you own on the Buckeyes. ;)

I wasn't going to say anything. I was just going to take it as a gimme.  8)
So, I should take Cal?   :eyeroll:
Don't
Just a little joke, J.  You might have noticed that I picked well (in the losers bracket) the past 2 weeks!  :lol2:

Hey, I'm right with you on the picks. Maybe SC is trying to help some of us. :dunno:

That was the only place I could find a line, and I looked at it about 4 or 5 times before I took it.  I just assumed there was some news on Braxton Miller and/or other OSU injuries.

Consider it a gift from the house.  ;)

Just entered by picks and did a double take on that Cal -7 line as well.

There is one "gimme" line very year.

Did anybody think Cal would put up 34 against OSU?

Cal had 371yds passing and 132yds rushing.

This game proves that OSU is a paper tiger.

It was a dog of a game, but I believe it was more interesting than LU v. UK.

I think the -7 point line for Cal was a typo.  Once casino had OSU -15, which was much closer to reality.

Yeah, that is what I thought as well.

I have retired (long ago) from gambling for money.  This is the only line I look at.

-17 or -15 would have made the picking a little more interesting.
