Title: Should CRS Retire?
Post by: SUPERCOACH on June 15, 2022, 03:25:32 PM
CRS has been up and running for over a decade.  Amazon has informed me that the equipment that the site runs on will soon be retired.  I can migrate the site to a new system, but that will take some work on my part.  And right now I just don't have a lot of spare time for such a project.

So what say ye?  Is it worth the trouble, or should we just ride on off into the sunset?

I'd sure miss the core group of folks here, as few in number as it has become.  But I also understand the cost and time involved when you really aren't using it much yourself.   I'd do anything I could to help out, but AWS is a bit complex for your use (and my knowledge) IMO.   Would it be easier to migrate to a new host provider?

Well I don't know how to help but I have loved this site ever since I found it. I sure hope to see one more NC trophy before I go or the site does. Is there anything I can do money wise to help out SC? God Bless in your decision. RTR!

Running a site like this is above my expertise (most things are), but I would sure hate to see it go. Having said that, most of these are going by the wayside because of Facebook. I'd be willing to pitch in monetarily or any way that would be helpful to keep her up and running. Just let me know. If every member pitched in a dollar, that would give you $7 to work with.  :lol2: I could prolly do a little better than that.  ;)

Could we setup a facebook group for CRS members?

I'd particularly miss HSCOACH's game analyses.

Could we setup a facebook group for CRS members?

FB would have a lot of false people coming in there and keeping game highlights up on gameday would probably be lost as well as all the topical stations. JMO. RTR!

This is the only Bama site where I post and I would be very sad if it disappeared.  I will contribute (considerably more than a dollar !!) to keep it going if that helps.  But the bigger issue may be S'coach's time.

Would it help if the site were simplified?  Drop the E-cred functioin?  Drop the pickem contests (except for the weekly Bama games?)

I hope CRS can survive but all things have a beginning, a middle, and an end.

I would rather CRS not be retired.  I also will not participate if it goes to Fakebook because I don't do the F-book.  Course, some of ya'll might be happier if I weren't around so there is that...  I too would be willing to contribute $$ as long as it didn't come to the amount to purchase SC a new E-vehicle...

This has been an excellent site but I would not want to impose on SUPERCOACH if it's too much work/cost on him. I would be happy to help with a donation but I think the time involved is the bigger problem. I have said many times on this site that I am a computer idiot so I can not help with the site. This is totally up to our computer guru, SUPERCOACH. If the site ends I will miss it and all the posters we have chatted with over the years.

Was a decision made on the topic of this thread?  I never saw a timeframe mentioned so I'm not sure if this site is "lame duck" or not.

I still love this site. Also how would we post on game day about the games, especially with all the outsiders jumping on our page and causing trouble? RTR!

I fall in the same bucket as NALT as a Facebook non-user.

I will keep it going.  I have another 5 or 6 weeks before it goes dark.

So, it 'goes dark' about the same time as the first game?   :(

Going dark, does that mean it will not be open anymore? RTR!

If I didn't do anything, it would be shut down.  But I plan to avoid that, so there should be no noticeable down time, other than maybe a few minutes late one night when I flip the switch to the new server.

#+ #+ #+ if I could give more than 1 e-cred I would do so. Thank you SC because I have tried to look at other sites and to me nothing comes close to CRS. RTR!

SC, you are so kind. If there is anything we can do to help, financially or otherwise, please let us know. Our numbers are down but the few of us still around enjoy this site very much.

Great news! Will there be anything different we have to do to access the site, like a new password, new anything. I'm a computer idiot so I'm not sure what to expect.

I'm actually working on this tonight.  Not going well so far.  >:( >:( >:(

You shouldn't notice any difference once it is done.

And if anyone else has any extra pictures of gold bricks, send them my way.  :lol2:

I can't even afford a picture of any.  If I could, it would likely be LoRes.

Thanks, SC.
I awoke this morning to a computer without sound.  I tried all the usual fixes, then went to a TROUBLESHOOT click.  It downloaded new audio drivers, and FIXED!
