Title: Did Saban disrespected ESPN’s Maria Taylor during her interview last night?
Post by: Merk on September 02, 2018, 09:32:47 AM
Seems Paul Finbaum and others are jumping all over CNS saying he was disrespectful to her during her interview last night asking another QB question.

My take is that CNS is sick and tired of the incessant QB questions from the press and just had enough. I know the press has a right to ask their questions but they all know how prickly Saban is on this issue. So, I just think it was classic Saban who wasn't in the best of moods last night and the question just rubbed him the wrong way.

He is being hypocritical in that he'd punish a player that spoke to her that way.  You can't effectively preach composure and self-control if you're committing "personal fouls" yourself.  In the end, he'll be flagged by the head referee in this situation, Ms Terry, and issued the appropriate ass chewing.  I wouldn't be surprised if she requires a call or note of apology as well.

Well Joey Galloway even said on ESPN that it was enough already. Even the sportscasters were tired of it it was time to move on. I had to agree with him. RTR!

The question wasn't even about who is getting the starting job. It was a legit question as to how he thought they performed. I'll be honest with you, I'm very disappointed in Saban's lack of class with that vitriol response . It was totally uncalled for.

Yeah, I get he's irritated at all the questions directed at the QB situation, but when you are the premier coach of the premier college football program in the country, you're gonna get asked those questions. You'd think he'd be used to it by now. I think what Finebaum said about Saban was dead on. It WAS totally classless.

And to Maria's credit, she handled it better than I would have. Kudos to her.

Here is the question that Maria asked with Saban's response.  I think he simply misunderstood her question due to the celebratory crowd noise.  I'll give him a pass if that is the case.

Well now that all the bells and whistles are done, I think CNS was stunned by the big margin of victory. He didn't know how to actually answer that or maybe he really was tired of hearing this since the NCG of last year. RTR!

Preacher, I actually think he was irritated by the sloppy play near the end of the game. He was definitely in a bad mood when she interviewed him. I just think that if he is a professional, he should handle himself better than that.

It is what it is. Part of the process. CNS did not like the sloppy play at the end of the game. He was ready to chew someone out and she was standing there with a microphone in her hand and he her a chewing out. No big deal.

I've seen Maria's interview a couple of times.  CNS was 'hot' at the end of the game but I don't think his response to her was disrespectful, nor was it classless.  Doesn't rise to the level of either of those things.  Maria handled it well, stood her ground  and finished her interview.

But I do wonder...if Joey G had asked the same question and gotten the same reaction from Coach, would the reaction be the same?

I wouldn't trade CNS for the world, but any way you look at it, he was wrong and IMO totally classless. He apparently has, though, apologized to Maria. I feel better now.

NO.
We are expected to treat women like men, equally and without special behavior.
BUT, women are more likely to be thin-skinned if we raise our voices, as we often do when interacting with men under stressful situations.

Choose your saying: "You can't live with them or ...".  "Can't load them with a pitchfork..."

Dumb question to ask Saban, although she was probably told to do so.  Maria is a strong woman, and I don't feel that she is owed an apology any more than if a man had asked the question.  Equal job, equal treatment.

As ricky said, everyone is sick of the question.  Joey Galloway exploded after it was brought up yet again in College Football Final.  I change channels or fast forward when it gets brought up now.

Saban has pretty much been saying for months that it isn't a question he is going to answer.  He has been telling people to stop asking.  As he has been ignored, and asked again, his response has gotten more direct and irritated.  I think being asked, yet again, to compare QBs after the game, when the decision clearly has been made, was the final straw.  Saban doesn't want to be asked that question one more time -- it stops now -- and he wanted there to be no question about it.

I don't think he was being rude to Maria Taylor.  It could have been anyone.  Saban was sending a message that he had his QBs backs.  He isn't going to talk about shortcomings in the press.   So stop asking.

My personal interpretation of what he was asked by Ms. Taylor wasn't to compare the two QB's but "what have you learned about the qb's" instead.  Totally different question in my mind.  I thought her question was a good question to ask.  As I said earlier, I think the noises of the crowd celebrating another Bama opening game victory was probably a factor in CNS thinking that she was asking for a comparison.  I personally don't think he owed her an apology either.  Let's face it, women want to be treated equally as men but when that treatment happens to be more negative then the talking heads lose their minds. Double standard at it's best...

^^^This. I don't care who the interviewer is, they didn't deserve that. Saban would never have apologized if he didn't think he was wrong.

Ha..ha...ha...LOL.  Well said SBO.  I saw on a crawl on SEC Network that CNS has apologized to Maria.  That should be the end of this story but the media will probably keep beating this dead horse for another 3-days or so.

This incident may do more for Maria's career than anything else she's done on TV!!!  She handled herself well under fire.

I have to agree with this totally. I WILL explain why. The moment in college football the hairs are standing because of the big money, coaches being fired, for not winning. You have to understand that the rush is in the blood at that moment and there needs to be a calming period if you don't want the reactions then wait till the calming period is over. RTR!

Well what I was saying is about the big rush going on at that time at the end of the game. They had just won a big game by a lopsided score and all the excitement somebody might say the wrong thing as the guy "EDWARDS" did from Michigan. These interviewers need to ease off some.
