Title: Alabama Basketball @ South Carolina Tonight-Tuesday 02/26
Post by: Marshal Dillon on February 26, 2019, 01:02:04 PM
Another big one tonight. S. Carolina has been very good in SEC play with a 9-5 record, tied for 4th. Tonight USC, then Saturday LSU in T-Town! Which Tide team shows up?

It's an earlier game tonight (6pm).  Although if it goes poorly, we might all be watching Wheel of Fortune by 6:30.

SC can't make a shot. Tide 6/14 FG's, SC 2/15. 13-5 Tide.

Giddens looks better in this game, not like a statue. Dazon Ingram=turnover machine. Has 3, so far. 14-7 Tide.

Avery took some advice from Wimp and cut practices back to 75 minutes the last week.  Looks like our legs are fresh.

SC shooting 16% but trail by only 5. Not good sign for Tide.

SC 7/8 FT's, Tide 1/2.  26-15 Tide

We need to get a 3rd foul on Silva ASAP.

Petty has been ice cold lately, but he's really improved his defense over the last 2 months.

1/6 FT, totally pathetic free throw shooting by Bama. SC shooting 19% FG but we can't put them away. Unacceptable. Avery Johnson looks lost on sideline.

31-25 Tide  Half

Is CAJ really into college basketball or even understand it's different from the NBA?

Give our D a lot of the credit for USCe's 19% shooting.  A really great defensive effort that half.

Here we go. Starting 2nd half sloppy & discombobulated. 31-29 Tide. Good shot by Mack, 33-29 Tide.

We are passing too much and out of control at times. Giddens & Jones have 3 fouls, Mack & Hall 2. 34-31 Tide. Tide 10 turnovers, SC 5.

If this is true, that is very encouraging.  I have no problem with the team being sluggish because they were working too hard at practice.  That is easy to fix.  I guess we will see.

It must not have worked for Riley.  He's moving like a 60yo tonight.

All Norris has done has fall down on every play. We need some real energy now and dome big shots. We are falling apart right now. Where's CAJ at?

SC 17/21 FT, Tide 6/13. I am getting so tired of the same crap and listen to CAJ in the huddle, he doesn't talk defensive schemes.

My observations.  One, again used a short bench, Smith did get a few minutes tonight.  Two, USC got back in when Petty was out and it seemed Bama was outrebounded.  Three, Bama hurt on the inside by Silva.  Four, again missed free throws allowed USC to stay closer than it should have been.  Five, I noticed, AP doing more coaching on the sidle line.  I could be wrong, but just noticed it tonight.  Six, Petty isn't scoring, but he isn't taking bad shots.  He tied for the team lead in assist and rebounds.  Seven, Norris stats overall are better than Mack's so why not start him?

Interesting observation. I said it earlier, I think CAJ is lost about the workings of college basketball and never says anything as far as what to do when they call a timeout.

Eight, things got better when they took Dazon Ingram (human turnover machine) out & was benched late in game.

It wasn't a perfect game, but we played with tremendous effort and energy, especially on defense.  I was afraid we'd fold when South Carolina came back and briefly grabbed the lead with about 8 minutes to play.  But they didn't fold, and kept working hard.

John Petty is miserably cold shooting the ball right now, but the last six weeks, he's been a completely different player than when he got to Tuscaloosa.  His defense has improved tremendously, and he had 10 rebounds tonight.  Both those contributions speak to a player giving a lot of effort.

Great win on the road against a team that was 9-5 in conference play.

That's everyone's question.  One thing is certain - if we win our last 3 games, we'll be dancing.

I'm not sure but I think the reason DI didn't go back into the game is because of the shot he took on the leg.
