Title: Alabama-Penn State football game to kick off at 2:30 p.m. on ABC
Post by: pmull on June 07, 2011, 03:37:50 PM
I like the 2:30 start times. This should be a good game.

I wonder if the local ABC channel will finally upgrade to 1080p this year.  Their HD is only 720p, but then again so is ESPN, so it might be the network feed.  CBS is in 1080p, but they have Verne and Gary.

Enough said!!

I watch CBS when I have no choice, but I do fire up my radio and listen to Eli.  And better than that,  he has called the play by the time  the play makes the screen.  Roll Tide!  Roll

I can not watch the game and listen to Eli. The delay drives me crazy.  >:(

Me too, plus I can't pause Eli when I need to leave the room for a minute.

I like Gary, he knows football very well. I feel sorry for him having to cover for Vern on Gameday, and then attempt top defend him the following week. Several times I have heard Gary make a comment about what "could happen" and it happened the very next play.

Gary seems to try to stir up controversy to me.  For example, at the end of the UT game when Cody blocked that kick and ran to the sidelines.  He went on and on about how there should be a penalty because he took his helmet off. There have been other instances too, but that is the one that comes to mind first.

I can't argue that, at all. I think sometimes he does try to get to "analytical" but he does seem to know the game better than most others in the booth.

Listen to what he says, just prior to the play starting. Now it maybe obvious in hind sight, however how many other commentators would have noticed this?

I like Gary. Vern pasted his prime a long time ago. I like the CBS broadcast best even if Vern is a part of it.

I like to listen to Gary on the Finebaun show during the season. He does a good job of breaking the game down. He knows what he is talking about.

I hate to admit it, but I like Vern. He screws up a lot but he gets excited at good plays. He's not a generic announcer. He really gets into the game.

I was really hoping that this would be a night game. There is a triathlon on the same date I had been eyeing. At least the tri is Eastern time, which will buy me an extra hour to get home. Not even sure about the tri anyway. Seems getting to the pool during lap swim hours is nearly impossible for me.

I remember him saying that right before it happened.  I am not opposed to Gary and Verne, but it does annoy me sometimes when they call a game were Bama is a heavy favorite and they try to stir things up to try to give the underdog something to complain about after we beat them.

They are consistent though, I can remember not too many years ago when Bama was the underdog and they would get me riled up at the officiating and thinking we were cheated.

My favorite crew though is Todd Blackledge and whoever the other guy is.  If we could pair Keith Jackson with Todd Blackledge that would be a great pair.

I am not a fan of either Gary or Vern. I can go as far as saying that I HATE having CBS cover our games because of those two.  Gary may know his stuff but I still can't stand him! :)

One question though - WHY doesn't Alabama have times for ALL of their games set before a few weeks into the season? I mean, Nebraska has ALL their times and channels lined up. Every game is on TV with a time posted.  We don't have most of our game times til sometime during the season.  Just wondering :)

We don't even know which networks will be carrying most games, and that is who decides when the games will be played.

It all has to do with TV. The SEC get big $$$ for their TV package. CBS, ESPN, etc wait as long as they can to make sure they get the best game possible. They want the hot, national rated teams on as much as possible.

I wonder if the local ABC channel will finally upgrade to 1080p this year.  Their HD is only 720p, but then again so is ESPN, so it might be the network feed.  CBS is in 1080p, but they have Verne and Gary.

IMO the ESPN broadcast always looks better than CBS, even at the lower resolution.  And are you sure that CBS isn't using 1080i (I haven't paid attention, just asking)?

I hope to be at that game, wearing a Crimson elephant suit and earning 200 e-creds on national TV.  8)

Well my thought is 3 reasons why we don't have all times & schedules:
1. Money
2. Money
3. Money
RTR!

If you show up at a game wearing a Crimson elephant suit on national TV I hope SC gives you 500 e-creds. Then I hope you get checked out by a doctor for Harvey Updyke type tendencies.  ;)

I will hold up a disclaimer sign at the game...."No trees were harmed as a result of my self-humiliation".

You're right.  I just checked and it is 1080i.  Sorry about that.  So I guess that is really more like 540p.

If you get on TV with a sign I will up it to 500.  But you have to post a pic of the sign before the broadcast so we know it is you.
