Title: High School Football
Post by: pmull on August 22, 2015, 07:44:13 AM
Football is back and I saw a great game last night. 6A Austin beat 7A Spain Park in three OT's 38-35.

The game was tight the whole way. Austin lead 14-7 at the half. SP went for a 2 pt conversion to tie the game late in the 4th qtr. Austin missed a short field goal to put the game into OT. Neither team scored in the 1st OT. Both teams got a TD in the 2nd. Austin blocked a SP FG attempt in the 3rd and won it win a short FG. What a game.

It was a big win for Austin over a 7A power.

Good news for Bama in this game. Austin offensive tackle Deonte Brown who is committed to Alabama had a huge game. He is a 6-4 320 lb 4 star stud. Austin had a back run behind him for 286 yds on 22 carries and another run for 93. He anchors a very good line for Austin.

Most of the games in my area had a tough time with the stormy weather last night, most of the games finished very late.

Always good to start seeing the HS football reports. Kudos to Austin for a big win. Had to be a very exciting game. Sounds like Deonte Brown is a beast!

I noticed a lot of scores not posted on the AHSAA website. That must be why.

There was a ton of lightning involved with the storms.

6A Austin lost to 7A Buckhorn last night 22-20. Austin fell behind 15-0 early due to three 1st qtr turnovers which included a muffed punt deep in our territory that lead to a Buckhorn TD. Austin came back late in the game to pull within 2 but the 2 point try to tie failed. We got the back with 49 seconds to go and drove past midfield. We needed about 10 more yds to try a winning field goal and the QB got sacked and time ran out.

We play intercity rival Decatur next week.

Gadsden 41 - Oxford 19 (Oxford is not used to getting beat like that)

Hoover 42 - Manatee, FL 21 (Manatee normally has a strong team)

Opelika 31 - Auburn 30 (I bet that was a good game)

Any High School School football fans on here. How did your local team do?

Well Munford handed Cleburne a whipping. Ranburne won their game over Pleasant Valley big time. I think Ranuburne my old team will be back in the playoffs with a few things falling their way like no injuries. RTR!

Austin shut out rival Decatur last night 9-0 to go 2-1 (1-0 region). Austin's defense played outstanding. Decatur only had 6 first downs and less than 100 total yards.

This game is one of the biggest events of the year in Decatur. The crowd was standing room only in a facility that holds 12,000. Both bands performed together before the game and performed a presentation to veterans. The coaching staffs and players were well prepared and well behaved. This is what high school football is all about.

My HS team is terrible, but the band looked good.   :lol2:

Looks like it might be Austin's year. Thanks for the report.

In my area, Navarre beat Washington 42-0. Washington is coached by Charlie Ward.
Pensacola Catholic beat Gulf Breeze 41-24. All 3 of my daughters went to Gulf Breeze. They field a bunch of skinny little white boys, year after year, so they're never any good.  :lol2:

Scanning state scores I found these games interesting:

#4 Bob Jones beat #7 James Clements 27-24

#10 Gadsden beat Sparkman 66-34.

#1 Hoover beat #11 Mountain Brook 21-14

#3 Central Phoenix City beat #10 Auburn 27-24 (Auburn falls to 1-2)

#9 Buckhorn beat Hazel Green 38-14

#2 Prattville beat Gulfport, MS 21-16

Last night was the first week for region play.

Trussville 38 Tuscaloosa County 14

Last week they beat Gardendale. The first week they narrowly lost to the state champions of Tennessee, a team considered one of the Top 50 in the nation last year. Finally, after years of mediocrity, they got rid of their coach, Hal Riddle. He hung on for 13 years because he was a local guy who had played QB for Trussville back in the day. Another lesson about keeping a coach around too long for all the wrong reasons. It took a female AD with some gonads to get rid of the bum. She's the wife of Bobby Johns, for you guys who know your Tide history.

Ugh. That's two weeks in a row that my boys from County High got plastered. Looks like we are in for a LONG season.  :wall: :wall:

Well Cleburne County beat Cherokee County last night 41-14 but my high school ost to Randolph County 21-14. Ranburne I thought would be good this year but if so they will have to change a lot. RTR!
