Title: Anniston Star- Injuries hinder Alabama football players in off-season practices.
Post by: ssmith general on March 05, 2011, 05:26:47 AM
"TUSCALOOSA — Still more than two weeks from the first official spring practice, Alabama football players are knee-deep in the off-season conditioning drills.

By the time the 15-practice regimen starts March 21, the Crimson Tide will be missing a few injured players including a starting defensive lineman.

Kerry Murphy, a six-game starter who made nine tackles but struggled with a nagging knee injury, will not see the field this spring. Neither will reserve wide receiver Kendall Kelly and special teamer Wesley Neighbors.

“All these guys had physical issues that has not allowed them to participate in the offseason program, will not allow them to participate in the spring and most certainly could affect their future ability to contribute here,” Saban said. "

They don't lose their scholarships as long as they're on the team.

I saw Wesley Neighbors play in high school.  He's an aggressive player, a hitter.  He's not as fast as he probably needs to be for a safety, but he's found a niche on special teams.  Hope he heals fast.

Yes, but if they go on a medical scholarship they dont count against the 85.

Yes, true.  It seems the writer wanted to suggest that, but hedged to protect the local (Anniston) star and avoid the wrath of CNS.

"Saban would not comment on the possibility of medical scholarships that would end the football careers of the injured players but allow them to complete their education at Alabama."

Pretty sure I've read Kerry Murphy to go on medical rumor about 20 times.

I hate that, I always wanted to see what Kerry Murphy would do healthy. I remember when he was recruited, there was some big dreams. RTR!
