The weather would be perfect for golfing here today, but alas, yard work beckons.

YOU play golf??
We needed you in Tuscaloosa last weekend.  Nobody there seemed to know how to play well!

Well, I've done my chores for the day.  I went out onto the driveway to greet my neighbor's cats this morning (and shoo them away from the bird feeders), and discovered a HUGE PINE TREE had fallen.  It was partially blocking the road.  That tree died about 5 years ago, and has served a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers as a residence for the past 2 summers.  About dark yesterday LF and I heard an odd sound, like a whoosh and a shudder.  "Earthquake?" we wondered.  I went out into the yard, but didn't hear or see anything.  It must have been that tree.

It brought down 2 medium-sized red maples with it, which also were in the road.  So I just now went out and cut them up into manageable pieces to clear the road.  The top of the pine has busted into several short lengths, so they were easy to move.  The tree remains are in our neighbor's yard (across the road from us), so I'll let him finish the project.

Whew.  Now, when does the festival start??

Don't be eating your kill today, HL.

Reminds me of a joke about mole-asses.

Today was weigh-in day.  I will be celebrating a successful week (3 lbs lost) with a grilled burger tonight.

It depends on how loose your definition of playing golf is.  I go hack it around the course a few times a year.  I'm a mid-90s shooter generally.  I don't play enough to have any kind of feel on my short game.

Then you'd fit right in.

True.  Usually 2 shoots better (he says  ), but last weekend he shot a 92 and the rest of us were 98-99.  Not our best.  I don't play enough to be good anymore.  I was better when I was younger (duh!).

Good morning folks.  Beautiful here too but still pretty cool at the moment.  I've got plenty of yard work ahead of me today too.  Mrs. Nalt would love to visit that art festival Chech.  Over in Huntsville this weekend is the Panoply Art festival.  It started in 1982 I think (my senior year of high school) and has grown quite large.  I think I heard that they are expecting >65,000 to attend this year...

Same here.  Last year there were 65-70,000.

I needed your log-lifting skills this morning, NALT.  Bring your trailer.

For a rotten Pine?     Does your city/county provide clean-up of brush like that?  We don't have that service here but over at Dad's house he does.  If we can get the brush to the road-side then they will pick it up.  Just don't injure yourself trying to lift that stuff.  Rent a skid-steer if you have to...

Actually I'm in the county, not city, but we have free pickup by "Solid Waste" trucks.  I was just picking at you, NALT.  Most everyone here has a chain saw, and it was cut into sections and stacked for the trucks when LF and I returned from the festival.  My neighbor must have done the cleanup.

Breddy has done a good job of keeping the pool from turning toxic. Tomorrow is family cookout day, so I'll be tackling the pool on Monday, to begin the process of getting it into swimming condition. Since the majority of my time is spent in SC now, that puts me under the gun to get it done this week. Fun times.

Good morning.  Coffee

Indeed, 2, it's a beautiful spring day.  Enjoy the cookout, and get that pool ready.  I may need a relaxing dip next trip south.

We had a fun, long day at the festival in Oxford.  Here are a couple of pics:

Here I am putting the hurt on an ice cream sandwich.  These chocolate goodies are advertised as "Big As Your Head".

We sat in lawn chairs under the shade of a huge oak.  This was our view from there.
