Mississippi State played LSU tougher than Oregon did.  They both lost by 13, but Oregon was losing by 20 until they scored that last TD with 13 seconds left to try and make it look closer than it was.  Oregon was losing 30-13 when the 4th quarter started and LSU had the game well in hand.  MSU on the other hand was only losing 9 to 6 when the 4th quarter started and still was within reach right up until near the end of the game.

Mississippi State would give Oregon all they want if they played next week.

By the way LSU, who supposedly has no offense and beat Bama without either team even scoring a touchdown , put up 40 points on that mighty Duck defense that all the talking heads are quacking about.  Meanwhile, God's gift to football Andrew Luck and his all powerful offense only scored 30 against the Ducks.

Of course those Pac-12 and Big-12 teams score insane points when they play each other.  If you took the best defensive players from every team in both conferences you might be able to field a middle of the pack SEC defense.  Spread those players out across over 20 teams and you end up with defenses that would struggle to stop an Alabama 6A high school team.

I'd put Vandy's "D" with Miss State in defenses that are better than the PAC 10-12 all star team in your example (hypothesis). Vandy has a better "D" than anyone I can name, in any conference (MSU too).

I think it was Craig James on the BCS show who said that if Arky beats LSU then Arky should play in the BCSNCG.   Laughing

I really don't think there is any way Oregon would go in front of Bama.

^^This. When you compare a 40-27 azz whooping to an extremely fortunate overtime, sneak out of town, by the seat of your pants win, there's no argument.
Herbstreit just made the argument a couple of hours ago.
Mark May and Rece Davis also are on the Bama bandwagon as the best one-loss team (which it is).  Lou Holtz tried to argue Oregon's side, but their demolition by LSU, and their offense's failure to score big against a weak Auburn defense last year, cuts against that argument.

I tweeted Jim Dunaway yesterday and asked him if Arky beats LSU is Bama in the Ntl Champ game,

He said "Boy, I dont think so...if LSU has one loss they beat Bama...so that no longer makes Alabama the best one lost team."

Good point, but I think it depends on how bad they lose too. would they fall below bama with a 3 pt loss? IDK but a 14 pt loss i think they would.

I think they just assigned some people to argue various sides, whether they actually believe it or not, just so all the bases are covered.  For example, they had Craig James arguing for Oregon at the beginning of the show, but then somebody asked him if they had them ranked ahead of Alabama on his AP ballot.  He laughed and said no, he had Alabama at number 3, which totally contradicted everything he just said about Oregon.

He forgets that Arkansas would still only have 1 loss.  The 3 would be tied.  So you would have to look at who had the closest game in their loss.  That rules out Arkansas, and it would probably come down to LSU or Alabama, depending on how close the game is between LSU and Arkansas.  Unless the game goes to OT, I think Bama wins that argument.  Remember, LSU will be at home against Arkansas too, so they won't have the away game argument to help them.

If the Hogs beat LSU the SEC front runner for the BCSCG will be who the SEC picks to go to the SECCG.

We are still in the BCS picture and that is more than I though possible a week ago. It is still out of our control. If LSU or Oklahoma State loses I think we are in good shape with the BCS computers. I am concerned about bias in the human polls. The rest of the country is tired of the SEC winning every year. The human polls carry the most weight and will determine who plays for the championship.

SEC Tiebreaker would be highest BCS ranked team, so there would be a lot of lobbying (and likely some suspect voting) at that point.  In a 3-way tie, Bama might (and should) win that argument, but I think that's a long shot -- LSU should beat Arkansas.

Yep. But so as to not FURTHER confuse poor ol' Dr. Lou, they let him pick, then argue against whatever crazy shat he decides to take.

I agree, LSU should win.  Arkansas has a chance of course, but I don't think it is much of one.  Maybe 80% LSU to 20% Arkansas.

I think our best chance is for Oklahoma to beat OSU.
