Title: Interesting SEC games for Auguest 30, August 31, & Sepember 1
Post by: Marshal Dillon on August 12, 2012, 08:54:24 PM
We all know Alabama v Michigan. What do you think about these?

S. Carolina/Vandy: I can definitely see an upset here in Nashville. Very important game for Vandy.

Kentucky/Louisville: The end of Joker beginning in Louisville?

Auburn/Clemson: After eating Chick Filet, Clemson will feast on Auburn for dessert. Too much offense for a new D coordinator to handle. Huge game for both programs.

Tennessee/N.C. State: UT has 20 returning starters, but what quality are they. I still think UT wins this one on semi-neutral site.

Vandy could definitely be a trap game for SC, but i don't think they can hang with them the whole game. SC pulls away in the 4th Q.

Louisville is going to be stronger under Charlie Strong (no pun intended) and will beat up on Kentucky.

I too, see Clemson beating the barn, handily.

NC State wins at home. Bray is all UT has. He won't be enough.

JMHO.

USCe in a slaughter (250 yards on the ground).
KY?  IDK
Hate to say it, but the Barn will win handily, 31-20.
NCS is WEAK this year; UT wins.

Why do you think Auburn walks over Clemson? Also, UT & NC State are in Atlanta, I think that may give UT a slight edge.

My bad. I thought NC State was home. I'll still go with them.

The Aubs have a defense (this year), and Clemson is sloppy on offense (turnovers).  Plus, the Aubs have a kicking game; Clemson less.

SC wins easily.
Kentucky loses to Louisville.
Clemson dominates.
Tennessee barely escapes with a win, avoiding a colossal embarrassment to themselves and the SEC.

This is the big unknown about Auburn and what their season hangs on. The D coordinator has to be better than the previous guy. I think the offense for AU is in disarray with no real solid RB and the QB position looks confused and weak. These two teams are very confusing and contradictory and this game is HUGE for both teams. This will be an interesting game.

I think USCe comes out over Vandy because of the wiser coach. I hate to say it but Spurrier and their RB forgot his name, will win that game.
Next comes Louisville just because they can this year.
I believe in Coach Sweeney because he is family. Their great jailbird or should I say running back should not be a distraction this time.
Clemson and auburn will be mostly Clem son because of Offense and defense. Clemson should win the kicking game returns or punting average. This was a lot of fun. RTR!

I am going to the Vandy/SC game with my friend. I hope SC wins because the car ride home will be a little uncomfortable. He's got high hopes for SC.

You guys realize that we haven't organized a football pool yet, and (as I recall) last year Smitty was the brains behind it.  Are we going to have one?

Don't count on me for the knowledge on setting it up.

I missed the reason ssmith has quit posting. He was a solid poster with a good intellect. I wish him the very best.

I think we should have one.  Maybe we all suggest games to be on the pick list for the week and we take the 10 most popular.  Of course if Smitty wants to run it again this year that would be great, but I haven't seen him around in a while.

I'm not sure why he stopped coming around, but I assume he is just busy in real life.  The last I heard, they were moving to Pensacola.  I hope everything is going well for them.

Ditto.  LF and I drove past his former residence in Alabama last week, and I waved as we passed (meaning I thought of him).  I miss him and his banter.

Hope he's happy; wish he'd return (and get his azz busy helping run the pool!

Thanks for the info. I'm glad he did not leave mad or disillusioned with our board. I hope he come back.

This sounds fairly accurate to me.

The following weekend we get to see TA&M and Missouri in SEC play, versus Florida and Georgia.  That will give us a good view of how these schools are going to manage in the SEC this year.  And I really don't think I can pull for either Florida or TAM in that game.

There are several good games for the opening weekend. Too bad the barn-Clemson game is only 1 hour earlier than ours. I think it will be a good game. Both teams are poorly coached IMO. The barn has too many holes. The new DC will help but they don't have any size at LB and the DB's are not SEC caliber. I think they have a decent DL. I think the O-line and running game will struggle. That puts a lot od pressure on a not very good QB. I think Clemson wins by 10. The barn also needs to worry about Miss State in game 2.

I miss him, too. I know he made it here to Pensacola, but haven't heard from him in months. I speculated before, that maybe he was in love since he found a new LF. Must be very powerful.

SC, looks like it's up to you to do the pool.

I miss Smitty too and don't want to take away from everything he did to help SC get this board started and his help in the football pool. But as I recall Smitty picked the 10 best games with the spreads from the vegas lines. He turned it over to SC from there. If SC needs any help I think he knows there are several of us who will be glad to help out anyway we can.

I couldn't agree more. Maybe Smitty will come out of hibernation to participate.

I think Vandy-USCe has the potential to be the second best game in the conference first week.

USCe by 10
Louisville routs UK by 28
Barn squeaks it out by 3
UT in a squeaker by 6

How about:

Boise St - Mich. St.
Navy - ND
Miami - BC
So. Miss. - Nebraska
Ga. Tech - Va. Tech

Ohio at Penn State might be a fun one, also.

Does anyone happen to know of a web site/news feed that has a schedule database in a simple format that can be easily parsed by an automated program?  Most of the sites I've looked at have everything embedded within their web page, which makes it difficult to extract the schedule info.  I am thinking about trying to write a piece of code that pulls the schedule in and creates a poll for everyone to vote for which games they want in the contest for that week.  Then I could pretty much put the contest on auto pilot.  Maybe one of the betting sites has a feed that includes the line too.

I could just pull it straight off a web site like ESPN, but that is error prone and fragile.  It wouldn't be difficult to get it working initially, but then if they tinkered with their site layout it would break.  It would be a high maintenance solution, which sort of defeats the purpose.
