Title: Urban Meyer Broken Man at Florida

Incredible.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer told HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" he was depressed while coaching at Florida in 2009, lost 37 pounds and was "mentally broke."

If this is true, why did he decide to go back? It isn't like he went to a less stressful job at tOSU.

There are many angles to this story, and I don't have much information to base my opinion, but I lost respect for Urban after he quit UF and went to OSU.  Like I said, not much info, but the one bit I heard from the inside was an interview of his daughter after he quit UF.  She said she finally had her daddy back, explained how much he'd missed of her life, and how much she wanted him in her near future.

Then he left again.   :dunno:

Basically, the arrival of Saban at Bama changed the landscape of the SEC and he couldn't handle not being the best.  He knew when an overachieving Bama team in 2008 nearly knocked off Florida in the SEC Championship that he wouldn't win a championship again.  Poor guy.

Did you see the contract that the signed with his family?  Not working more than 9hrs a day, will be there for all family events, etc.  It seemed like a pretty "strict" contract for a college coach, and they said they would all hold him accountable.

This is at least part of it:

Framed above his desk hung the contract he signed with his kids, written on pink notebook paper.

1. My family will always come first.
2. I will take care of myself and maintain good health.
3. I will go on a trip once a year with Nicki -- MINIMUM.
4. I will not go more than nine hours a day at the office.
5. I will sleep with my cellphone on silent.
6. I will continue to communicate daily with my kids.
7. I will trust God's plan and not be overanxious.
8. I will keep the lake house.
9. I will find a way to watch Nicki and Gigi play volleyball.
10. I will eat three meals a day.

This article from a couple years ago made me look at him a lot differently:  http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/8239451/ohio-state-coach-urban-meyer-new-commitment-balancing-work-family-life

That certainly helps.  I hope he abides by it.
I admit, I may have judged him harshly, assuming he dumped his family again.  Hope so.
Thanks, HL.
