With six games left in the regular season, Alabama has zero margin for error.

Entering the 8 p.m. trip to Auburn on Tuesday, Alabama has fallen to No. 75 in the latest official NCAA RPI ratings. Last Monday, Alabama was No. 69 and a week before that, it ranked No. 59.

I don't know how Bama could be favored but that's what the bookies say. I'm thinking this game could get real ugly for Bama with the sellout crowd expected and the pay back mentality of Bruce Pearl and his team.

Hate to say it, but I expect the Barn to win. Pearl will have his team & crowd at a fever pitch. Plus, Pearl can coach.

An embarrassing, lopsided loss to the Barn -- if it happens -- coming on top of the debacle against Vandy could be 'all she wrote' for CAG.  I still wonder if the team can bounce back from the Vandy game.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if there haven't been some feelers out there already to some sports agents from Bill Battle finding out who just might be available.

Don't even think that. That would be absolutely debilitating for the players & the program. No doubt that Grant is already toast as the coach but I hope the players hang in there.

Bama is not an NCAA Tournament team.  That ship has long sailed.  It isn't happening.

Surprised Bama is favored, with Tarrant still out.  Still a winnable game, though.

Yeah, I'm sure there has been "informal" contact with the agents of several coaches to gauge interest in the Tide job. I found where Grant's contract runs through 2019. Do the math, 4 x $1.9 millon & he gets $7.6 mil if fired. How could such a ridiculous contract be awarded to such an underachiever? Hope this is wrong.

They have not been a tournament team for a while.

However, they could win the SEC tournament and make it into the NCAA.

I read where the buyout is $1M per year (4 years remaining) on the remaining contract in lieu of $1.9M if he is retained. That would be further reduced by any salary he gets if he is hired as a head or assistant coach at another school.

IMO the buyout should not determine if he kept or not. If the administration is happy being middle of the SEC standings and NIT program they should keep him. If they want the program to compete for SEC championships and be a top 25 team a change is needed regardless of the buyout.

I don't know what to expect tonight. The barn plays us tough at their place. Their gym is small but the fans are right on the court and it can get loud. They could blow us out. However, we match up well with them. They are one team we have a height advantage over. If we control Bowers and limit their three point shooting we should win. I think it is a toss up.

I sure hope you are right about the buyout. Plus, you nailed it about the buyout being irrelevant if you want to win.

The buyout is even less than I said in my earlier post. It is $500K for the last four years of his contract.

Quote
Alabama men's basketball coach Anthony Grant has received a $100,000 raise and a one-year contract extension through 2019.

University system trustees approved a raise Thursday to $1.9 million from Grant's deal in April 2009.

Grant got a two-year extension last year but no raise. He led Alabama to its first NCAA tournament since 2006 last season. Grant's buyout will be reduced over time to $500,000 for the last four years.

Thanks for the info on the buyout. I thought I had read something about it reducing in the later years of it but I couldn't remember where I read it. Good stuff, well worth an e-cred.
